PAGE TWO GOLDSBORO HI NEWS Friday, May 20, IT 19 Guests Attend Senior Reception The Senior reception was held Friday, May 9th, in the Golds boro High School catleria. The Senior parents and guest were invited to the caleteria immedi ately after the Senior play, "The Swan,” presentation. The cafeterlfi was decorated in red and white, the Senior class colors. Punch, nuts and individ ual cakes were served. Those serving on the reception commit tee' were Joyce Carter, Jean Daugtry, Louise Lewis, Jack Rose. Margery Wilson, Ollie Tyn dall, James Seay, Roger Roberts, CJeraldine Williams, Thelma Nor- lis, Mary Howell and Bessie Cul- bi-eth. In the receiving line were Mr. »md Mrs. Ray Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Twiford, the Senior class o/ficers and the Senior teachers. The guests were asked register before they leit. Annette Edgerton was con- ftidered a frail girl? Here it is May 20. Only 14 days before the end of school! Everybody’s making a lot of use ol ‘‘Congialulations” (you know, the song by Jo Stafloni and Gordon McCi ae). Most hear tily dedicated to the seniors every where. G. H. S. is a mighty sad place the last week of the school yeai’, isn’t it. Everybody leav ing . . . well, three fourths of them anyhow. To those that can't leave our alma mater we dedi cate “Fool That 1 am.” Mighty j fine piece of music recoi-ded by. Sammy Kaye. Just recently "that” song called "Again” made famous by frog voiced Mel Torme, was number four on the nation wide Hit Pa rade. The next sentence is quoted from Fred Fletcher, ‘T'his song has an excellent chance of becom ing number one on the hit pa rade if the waltzes ever get off, (no offense of course to ‘Forever and Ever')”. 'rhe song being discussed in “Riders of the Sky”—first i«- corded by Vaughn Monroe and more recently by Bing Crosby. Fine music! "Single Saddle” is a new one also by Vaughn Monroe. Vaughn’s right in there pitching. If you hear a new singer called Ray Gilbert on your favorite rec ord show, he’s really not a new one—just take note of this: Gil bert has been writing hit tunes for the movies for years. The students contributed insect collections, dish gardens, bird houses, home-made corsages, leaf collections and nature boklets. By the way it is a young girl in French. Class Of ^52 Social Held Friday The freshman class of Golds boro High School held their first social Friday night, May 13, in the W^illiam Street Gym. The theme was “'What Do they Do On A Rainy Night In Goldsboro?” The same decorations were used as for the Junior-Senior. The program began with a solo by Nancy Parker. Peggy Haw kins did a snake dance. Steve Dail and Perry Hill did several numbers followed by the girls chorus. Members were: Nancy Bridges, Nancy Parker, Mela Royal, Sally Edgerton, and Peg gy Hawkins. Emily and Elton Warrick did jitterbug skits. Emily Howell did imitations by records. The Grand Finale was the girls’ singing, "What Do They Do On A Rainy Night In Goldsboro?” Teachers T—Is for the teachers who who have taught us through the years. E—Is for the errors that we’ve made. A—Stands for the tit arilnatest —Stands for the attitude and abiiliies the teachers possess. C—Is for the commands that we obeyed. H—Is for the homework which the teachers heap upon us. E—Is for the effort we have shown. R—Is for the riot that we make when going to lunch. S—Is for the several years we have grown. Put them all together they speH teacher.
