World Federation Talks
Given By Duke Student
Bob Byrd, a student at Duke
University, spoke to the English,
Sociology and History groups
during a recent visit to G. H. S.
He has taken a year off from
his studies to speak to high
school and college students in
North Carolina on the need for
strengthening the United Nations
into a world federal government
with limited powers adequate to
prevent war and aggi-ession
Byrd’s work being sponsored
is majoring in Sociology. He is
from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Since beginning his work in
September of this year, Byrd
has spoken to more than 1,500
students at 15 colleges and 6 high
schools. World federalist chap
ters have been formed in several
of the colleges as a result of this
work.
Byrd’s wor kis bein gsponsor-
ed by tlie United World Feder
alists of North Carolina, which
is a branch of the largest na
tional organization working for
the world government. This
group is paying his traveling ex
penses.
In college Byrd was active in
the Methodist Student Movement,
and was president of the Inter
collegiate Council for religion in
Life. His interest in world fed
eration is a result of his activity
in the world federalist chapter at
Duke. This chapter along with
others sponsored the "Washing
ton Caravan” in which students
from all over the state went to
Washington and talked with the
North Carolina Congressional
Delegation on world government
legislation.
Byrd recently returned from
the United World Federalist Na
tional convention in Cleveland,
Ohio.

Baby Quakes
The slim margin of IS gave
the GHS Baby Quakes revenge
over the Baby Blackbirds of
Rocky Mount in Rocky Mount’s
Municipal Stadium November 3.
The Blackbirds had moved
ahead in the second quarter when
George Newby went over his
own right tackle for 42 yards
and a touchdown. The home town
team lost their chance to tie up
the game when Newby failed to
go over in a line plunge attempt
for the extra p>oint. '
Dick Howard put the Quakes
back in the ball game in the third
quarter when he went four yards
over left tackle to tie the game
up.
The touchdown closed a drive
of over 60 yards. Billy Gibson
provided the winning margin
when he came through with a
perfect placement.
What if:
Ann was a hat instead of a
Hood?
Julian was a mountain instead
of .a Hill?
Adaline was a truck instead of
a Vann?
Sara was a grain instead of
a Cobb?
Lovelace was a buzzer instead
of a Bell?
Janet was a butler instead of
a Cook?
Peggy was a Percise instead
of a Malpass?
Jimmy was a Chesterfield in
stead of a L.S. (Ellis)
Alsa was a bug instead of a
Fly?
Tennie were pans instead of
Potts?
