(News-Argus photo) It Sure Does Fly Time Covers A Lot Of Territory ED’S DRIVE-IN Milk Shakes • Sandwiches Hot Dogs • Hamburgers - Mount Olive Highway - By DORIS PAGE The word “time” covers a lot of territory. Mr. Webster de fines it as a measure of dura tion, whether past, present, or future, or as present life or ex istence. That is the correct definition of what time is but everyone has his own personal definition of the word. “Having a time” can have many different meanings— depending on how it is used. It can mean having a wonderful ENRICHED- EAT MADE-RITE BREAD MADE-RITE BAKERY GOLDSBORO, N. C. Have you ever stopped to real ize how unique a day is. One day is not like any other day. Though the days rt^ay sometimes seem alike, there is really a lot of difference. For instance, today is April 26, 1950. There have been April 26’s since time began but there has never before been an April 26, 1950, and there never will be another one. All Time Is Different It’s the same with every sec ond of every minute of every hour of every day. There will never toe another one just like it. Time is different from any oth er thing in the world. Though a plan has been devised for measuring it, it is intangible and there is no way to capture it and store it for future uss. In at least one respect, time is like money. It can pay inter est. How we invest our time to day will bring dividends tomor row. If we waste our time or throw it away, we can’t expect to get anything from it. It v/orks on the proposition that you get out of it just what you put into it. Time is deceitful. It can fool you. When you want it to pass quickly, it seems to drag by and when you want to stretch it as far as you can, it slips by before Gifts Of Distinction Campbell’s Gift Shop 139 N. Center Phone 27 how you know it. Time Will Fool You Have you ever noticed some days seem to have about 48 hours while others rush by in less than 12 hours. It all de pends on how the time has been spent. Time is precious. Every min ute, every second counts. Every person has just so many years, so many days, hours, minutes, and seconds and every one that has passed brings him just that much closer to the end. People sometimes try to grasp the past and not let it go. They are afraid to grow old and they try to keep the past in the pres ent. But to be completely free of time, a person would have to escape into a world of his own where time had no meaning, and he would find that if time had no meaning, neither would any thing else. Should Live In Present It is wrong to live in anything tout the present. The past is gone and can never be brought back, and the future, no matter What would you do with a SFORZATO? That is the ques tion asked of the following stu dents by a member of the Hi News Staff. Here are some of the answers. James Cooke—^Put it in mv bed. Winford Walker—Take it work with me. Joyce Cooper—Put it in vocabulary. Jane Jurkiewicz—Give it Mrs. Yelverton. Walter Culbreth—Give it Darden to eat. Betty Pierce—Eat it Jay Maxwell—Date it. Frank Jeffrey—Keep it for a long time. Carlie Hinnant — Give it to Shirley. Bobby Montague—Spit on it. Junior Cousins — Give it to Miss Simpson. Bonnie Coley—Bring it school. Jimmy Shumate—^Put it Miss Ipock’s bed. Edith Long—Use it as an orna ment. Veryl Trueblood — File it for further use. Joyce Mozingo — “You don’t know, do you?” Peggy Hill—Give it to Barba ra to run over. Patsy Ray—Send it to Carl in the Medierranean. Incidentally, a sforzato galley slave. to in IS how much you plan for it, is al ways uncertain. No one can tell what may happen in his future. So you see, the thing is to make the present count. If we had a chart all made out for us, telling when certain things would happen in our life and giving the exact date of our death, we could afford to put off things tout we would know how long we had to make them up in. But there is no deadline on how long a person is going to live. There is no way to rebel against time.. Time was here be fore we came and it will be here when we are not. So, the only thing to do is to take it as it comes and make the most of it. Woodley’s Grocery Produce — Vegetables PHONE 100 - We Deliver - Bell-Askins Plumbing And Heating Co., Inc.
