Gurley Louis Hallow Berford Harris Jack Houser Symphony Orchestra Concludes Season « • * V The North Carolina Symphony orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Swalin, concluded its 1950-51 touring season with two programs of music in the G.H.S. auditorium May 21. The symphony presented a con cert in the afternoon for 1,260 Wayne County school children. Selections from “The Nutcrack er Suite” were played and explain ed. The children joined the sym phony in singing “Dixie”. Four or five hundred persons were present at the night perform ance. Highlights of the program were the Prelude to Act III from Wagner’s “Lohengrin” and a harp solo. “Buttons and Bows” and “The Sleigh Ride” were among the en cores played. Mrs. Bruce Boyers and Miss Mar garet Long were named as mem bership co-chairmen. George M. M. Conekin was elected treasurer.
