Sixteen “Southern Yankees” from R M H S had a rushing good time in the “Big City.” “Qh! What beautiful girls,” They must be beauty contestants” “Huh! part of the Zeigfield Fol lies,” “A graduating class” “South ern Belles,” were comments heard on the train. There were many funny experi ences, which the city slickers had. Jean Cooper paid her way out, in addition to get in the subway, and lost her hat at the Roxy Theater. Bobby Grimes carried his lunch into the diner of the train. Johnnie Shel ton because of her accent got Coca Cola instead of coca. Carolyn Ellis and Shirley Robbins paid their way into the wrong subway. These are only a few, but there were “oodles” more. The subways held many thrills for the Rocky Mount delegation. It apeared that their faces were the only happy ones on the. It would seem that the South raised morans the way everyone giggled. On the way back there were duplications in the seating arrange ments and many of the group had no seats. Not long afterwards it was found that a mistake had been made. The students had been as signed to the wrong car. Every one picked up his junk and trudg ed into car 41 which turned out to be much nicer than car 44. All in all the trip was success ful and was enjoyed by everyone. The South is still the “best place on earth,” says this group. How have youse kits been doing? Pardon my Yankee accent. When I really should have been writing my column I was loafing in a village called New York. So if news seems a bit thin, that’s the reason. We really had a fine time up in the big city. It’ kinda confusing at first, but it’s not so bad when you learn your way around. The only trouble is “everything’s moving too fast.” We had a lot of funny experiences up there. Every time we asked somebody something they’d ask us over just to hear us talk. Especially to say you-all! By the way, boys, you can buy orchids and roses for seventy five cents anywhere in New York, so if you’re up that way around Easter you might pick up your girl’s Easter corsage. Of course, it might be a little wilted when you give it to her but it’s still a cor sage. Well, I could just go on and on about our trip but let’s take a look at things at home. I don’t believe there is much to tell though because it seems that everybody tried to stay out and go off themselves last week. Miss Turnage’s World history classes went to Raleigh, the American history classes went to Williams burg and the basketball team went to Durham. Was anybody at school? I heard the basketball team visited George Newby while in Durham and in turn George went DRUMMOND’S FLORIST 119 North Main SI. Rocky Mount, N.O.
