PAGE 6 THE blackbird, rocky MOUNT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24. 1953 Kiwanians Honor Student Leaders. / 3 Boys-Of-Month George Knight has been elected the Kiwanis Boi -of-the-Month for Noveinhei bec:ajt,e of his outstand ing achievements while in high school, ihe first Ki-.vanis boy for the school year was Baxter Savage. Eddie Booth was October’s Boy-of- the-Monlh. Each boy was guest at the club’s dinner meetings at the Rick’s Ilo'el during the month he was chosea. George Knight is a popular asset to the senior class. Teachers and students can depend on him when they want to get things done. He was tapped into the National Hortor Society last year and he is now its president, lie is also cir culation manager for The Black bird and drum major and captain for the band. Kiwanis Choose Savage First Baxter Savage was vice-presi dent of the Student Organization last year and is its president this year. IJe is co-captain of the foot ball team and a member of the BAFOS. Booth October’s Boy Eddie Booth is Vice-president of the Student Orcgnization and is, therefore, in charge of all assem blies. He is on tlie varsity football team anfl a member of the BAFOS. The Kiivanis Club chooses a boy each month from the senior class on the basis of his achievements during his high school years. Any day now, in room 207, one can buy a beautiful high quality sweatshirt at the low price of $3.25. They are the same kind now being sold at Carolina, Duke, Annapolis, and other col leges for $5.95. The sweatshirts, sale of which being sponsored by the D. E. Club, are white, with a black and yellow RM emblem on the left side of the front. A zipper closes the convert ible collar and the sleeve cuffs and waistband are ribbed. Washability is guaranteed; the ;hirt will not shrink or stretch. It is made of highest quality mater ial with a hand-screened emblem guaranteed to last the life of the garment. Only a limited number was or dered. Services To Begin , Morning prayer meetings v/ill again be conducted since, students request these services. The meet ings will begin after Christmas vacation under the supervision of Reverend Fleming, of the West Haven Presbyterian Church, and Reverend E. H. Miles, of the North Rocky Mount Church of God. Student leaders Charlajne Sugg and the prayer meeting supervi sors decided that Tuesdays and Thursdays be set aside for prayer days. Before the Christmas holi days a call meeting will be held so the students may organize &nd discuss guest speakers for the year Posters are to be drawn and an nouncements made over the inter communication system to stimu late interest around school. The morning prayer meetings began last year and were conduct ed in the old high school cafeteria. The reputation of the meetings spread as far as New Jersey where similar groups were organized in a school there. Sponsor Directory For the first time in the history 6f the high school, a student di rectory containing the names and telephone numbers of all students, faculty members, and board mem bers, will be published. This Stu dent Directory is sponsored by the Student Organization with Miss Kate Parks Kitchin, advisor. Elizabeth Vann is head of the student directory committee. Working with her on this com mittee are Stanley Leggett, Leah Lee, Jimmy Lancaster, and Sally Ann Bartholomew. An estimated 437 students out of 601 have said they would buy a directory which will cost approxi mately twenty-five cents. Miss Kitchin hopes that the di rectory will be released for the students to buy before Christmas. As yet, however, there is no defi nite date set for the directory to come out. Erwin And Peggy Sound Off About What's New On Campus FHA Has Initiation Twenty-one new members were initiated into the Future Home makers of America during a party held in the hopie economics de partment November o. Each old member took three new members and made them dress “tacky” and perform at intervals. Some dressed like babies and sang and some wote pajamas and sang or told jokes. The home economics department was decorated with a large table on which was set a big vase of yel low chrysanthemums over a hand stitched tablecloth. Punch, cookies, and sandwicnes were served. Tv-o of the FHA’s projects for this year are (1) to equip the home nursing unit with the sup plies nece.ssary for the course and to collect coupons from Kel- log’s products to buy a complete etting of silverware for six.
