Young, adviser, intro duced editor Jimmy Moore, who in tvirn presented staff members. Vocals rendered by Gail Sutton and Norma Bulluck, and a dance routine by Eleanor Bulluck were the highlights. Judy Garner presented a dance to the melody, “It Might As Well ^ Spring”, on the TV progxam, “Fiunlly Fare”, September 14. Judy’s niunber pictures a girl sit- ti^ on a park bench daydreaming. New teachers of the Rocky Mount City Schools were special guests at the annual N C E A pic nlc in Sunset Park, September 15. Mr. D. S. Photo By Barrinsrer ‘Here’s How We Pick’ Em’ Many, especially the sopho mores, may be in the dark on how the different outstanding students of the month are picked duiing the year. Here are several pointers that will be of aid to those students who would strive to become one of the chosen few. Kiwanis-Boy-Of-The-Month” is chosen by the members of the Ki- wanis Club. This boy is picked on outstanding leadership quali ties, usually for which he has al ready been recognized by the stu dents. He has dinner with the club once a week during the month for v/hich he is chosen, This month Fi'ed Ruben, president of the stu dent organization, is so honored. “Personality of the Month” is toted on by the editors and the business managers of The Black bird and The Hi-Noc-Ar. Marian Jane Parker is the personality for the month of September. The local Sportsman club of Rocky Mount picks the boy who is awarded the Blackbird of the Week award. The first week of school, this award was given to Paul Eilers, an outstanding guard Fred Harris was given the award the second week. Last year the meet ings were conducted In the Gen eral-Purpose Room a;t school, but it was thought that a more re- ligicuB atmosphere would be better, so the West Haven Church was de cided upon, and Rev. Russell Fleming agreed to let the council use the church building. It is near school and for that reason con venient. Services will be open to all and the counci hopes for better at tendance than last year. Ptena Indicate that the programs will be most int«resting and inspiring for all those who attend. President of the Fellowship, Mariah Jane Parker, said that this is just their fii-st project of the school year. At the executive council meeting earlier this month, in addition to this project, com mittee Chairmen were elocted and the installation service for the new officers was discussed. Officers for the year are Mariah Jane Parker, president; Fred Har ris, vice-president; Gretchen Za- bawa, secretary; Anita Taylor, treasurer: and Joyce Harris, pub licity chairman. The adviser is Rev. Joe Brooks. The council is made up of these, plus two dele gates from each member-church. Meetings for all members of the FeUowship are held each fifth Sunday.
