r.i TUESDAY, FEBRUARY Id, IdSIf THE BLACKBIRD, ROCKY MOUNT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL m Future Champ? jjaywood Evaiis Hits 30 In 57-47 Loss to Caps As Seen By Russ and Joe Bueno, sports fanatics, this is your two “Etoi Viewers” taking you behind the- sport scenes, in the first appearance of this column (and may probably be the last) so we shall do our best. RMSHS may be in a newi ath letic classification, if the plan, now up before the NCHSAA (the governing body of North Carolina High School Athletics.) goes thro- ough. The regrouping plan states that schools with an enrollment of 300 to 600 will be Class AAA and all above 600 will be Class AAAA. But any school which has up to 650 students can make a choice as to which classification it would like to become. If Rooky Mount has .to make this decision and de cides to stay in the AAA, she will play, schools much smaller and will probably be “tops” in every thing as she will be the largest school in the conference. If she changes to AAAA, she will face the same teams she is facing now. season, coaches and sports writ ers put their shiny bald heads to gether and work out a college All-American squad. (Our heads are not bald and shiny and even though our ejje-sight is dim we challenge anyone anywhere to defeat this first string qumtet.) Starting with the first team we have a center, “Wilt, the Stilt” Chamberlin from Kansas. For the fowardis, we have two Carolina boys Grady Wallace of South Carolina and Lermie Rosenbluth of North Carolina. “Hot Rod” Hundley from West Virginia and Chlet Porte from Columbia University capture the guard positions. Haywood Evans popped the net for 30 points in a losilng cause as the Black and Gold was beaten by Raleigh 57-47 in the last re- gulair soheduied game of the sea- 6on. The sophomore sensation leads the Eastern AAA Conference in scoring with only one week of play left. As tonight is the last regular season basketball game, let’s every one hop into his “Kiddie Kar” and “joy iride” to Wilmington and support the team. The players will appreciate it. * * * • At the end of every basketball Lose Three Seniors Rocky Mount has a good chance of going to the state toiimament this year. Under the new ruling, which went into effect at the start of this basketbaU season, the top team in the league automatically) goes iwlth the other teams fight ing it out. Number 2 plays 7, number 3 plays 6, and team 4 against 5. As the Birds are in a 4-way tie for fourth spot, the team stand ings will have bo be decided on the flip of a coin. If Rooky Mount wins the toss and cajptures fourth place she will have the advantage of playing on her home court. Basketball Tearn Will Improve Better days are expected for the RMSHS Bird Cagers in the 57-58 basketball season as they will lose only three lettermen, Jackie Wil liams, Clarence Williams, and Fred Fulcher. There will be thirteen experienc ed t)oyB returning to form the nuoeus for both A and B squads. Guard spot will be the best stocked as returning guards will be orising jimlors, Bobby Joe Ayprs, Edward Dimn, John Tulloss, and Ray Parker; seniors, Davis Har per and Russell Clack. Returning forwards will be ris ing juniors, Lafnence Satterfield. Bill Parham, and Haoiwood Evans; senior, Norman Davis. Centers will be juniors Roland Parker and John Bandy; senior. Bob Moore.
