It was hard, tiresome work, but they were rewarded by “all th8j^ could eat”, free!!! PARLEZ - VOUS FRANCAIS? Well, we’re learning! Annie Lech- evalicr has kindly consenbsd to help the first and second year French classes with pronouncia- tion in after-school classes. French students are mightly excited, and equally so is Mile. Dorothy Craig- hill! Sandra Hedgepeth PARTIES ALREADY! Benvenue Country Club iwas the scene of a semi-formal dance given by Sam Melvin last month. A few of his guests were Frannie Harrison, Linda Klitzmer, Mac and John nines, Jane Fountain, Russell Clack, Frank Brake, and Mary Will Woodard. Anoither party was given by Sandra Hedgepeth on her sixteen th birthday, and right in the mid dle of the flu seige! Still enough were there to have a ball! Among those present were Reed Nelson, Frances Gorham, Chuck Haggerty, Betty Brock, Ellen Stovall, Judy Leonard, James Marshbourn, Ted dy Gossett, Kenneth Phelps, Pat ricia Reardon, Carolyn Nichols, and Lawrence Satterfield. Susan Keel had seme, uexiple over on the weekend while she was home. The crowd, dancing, eating, and just talking was made up of Kay Beach, Charles Edwards, Dottie Lou Thorpe, Blarnie Tan ner, Sammy Way, Ed Justa, Carol Forstadt, Mary Lewis Langley, Pat Thurman, Susie Street, John Bandy, Ann Sugg, Cleve Cherry, Caroline Hamilton, Lou Bryan, Jerry Daley, Tommy Adkins, Sfeaw Caddell, Joe Wheeler, Don Harris, Gary Ethridge, and Frank Brake. ORCHIDS to ... . The Service Club for their participation in Character Emphasis V^eek . . . The Optimists Club for sponsoring Youth Appreciation Week Xancy CoggiKS for keeping up such eyecatching bulletin boards in the halls . . . The new National Hcnor Society mtnibers . . . Marilyn “Puddie” Gold, local DECA member, placed first in an extemporaneous speaking contest, a feature of the general session. Talking on the topic “Personality •— Its Effect on Business Success,” Puddie achieved a blue ribbon. Other features of the convention were luncheon at the Governor Tryon Hotel, a job interview con test and a midmorning coffee hour directly i'ollowing registration, which served as a get-acquainted •time. Other local members attending were. Tills month the Kiwanis Boy is Allen Cronenberg and the Ro- itary Boy and Girl are David Har per and Judy Brown. Allen was chosen for his out standing leadership qualities, for iwhich he has already been re cognized. Allen who iwas SO vice president last year, serves the school as pai-liamientarian this teim. He is also president of the National Honor Society. ^hTs summer Allen was RMSH’s exchange student to Gennany. He was picked by the American Field Service from four local finalisits. Because of her excellent grades she was tapped into the National Honor Society. Judy plans to enter Duke University next fall. David, recently, nominated as one of twelve outstanding seniors, is editor of the Hi-Noc-Ar staff. He, too, was tapped last year a mong the cream-of-the-crop into ithe NHS and the journalistic honor society. Quill and Scroll.
