Babybirds Win In Overtime Thriller Babybirds eekod out a 40-38 win against Kinston, in a one-overtime thriller which saw them obtain their first win of the season, Dec ember 13. Sophomore Jim Speight led the scoring for the B-squad which used a zone defense to stop Kins ton . Kinston Stops Birds Kinston, with a strohg fast break attack, edged the Babybirds 38- 33, with John Tullos, junior for ward, getting 16 points and sop homore Jim Speight getting 5 points. Henderson Edges B-squad Rm B-squad lost a heartbreaker to the Bulldogs of Henderson 43- 38, in a game playied in Henderson December 11, as the locals failed to score in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Butch Jones, junior forward, led the Babybirds with 16 points, and Jim Speight ran a close second with 11. Due to a mix up in the Greenville hoop schedule they will play the local cagers only once this year. In the last five years Green ville has proved to be good, stiff competition, although the Birds have lost only, one of the games. Ihe lone loss came in the 1954-’55 season with Greenville wimiing on their home com-t, 46-35. Tiie re turn match , played in Rocky Mcj-nt, was a tight one with the locals squeezing out at 58-57 win. Cagers Trample Kinstun Black and Gold trampled the Kinston Red Devils, 51-31 in RM’s first game of the season in Kins ton December 3. Haywood Evans was the big gun, getting 24 points; while Roland Parker poped the nets for 14 points. Bob Moore was a demon in re bounding off the I offensive and de- ?! fensive boards. Birds Stomp Henderson Locals stomped Henderson 58- 40 in a game played at Henderson December 11, as forward Haywood Evans hit the hoop for 29 points. Hoopsters scored a hot 48 per cent from the floor and easdly thwarted the Bulldcg’s attack. Center Bob Moore hit for 12 points while fonvard Roland Parker fol lowed him with 11 points.
