Such courses are algebra, Eng lish coaiposition, and American his tory for upperclassmen and a world history class and an experi mental laboratory method of Eng lish. emphasizing insa-uction in multi-level reading, for the sop homores. Proparatorj Alfreliia TaugJit In line with the growing interest in math and science, a c'ass in higher algebra is now available for seniors. Th's course is des'gned to enable the students to by-pa-ss freshman algebra in college. It will also help students to make higher scores on the National Merit Scholarship Exam. Another course offered to sen iors is one in English composition. As the name indicates, emphasis is placed on writing. This class of 52 students is under Miss Kate Parks Kitchin’s supervision. 31rs. Some of the many al- vantages of the T. V. program are to teach the pupils how to take notes and to give them the oppor tunity to see people and places that they w'ould not ordinarily seie. Miss Iola Parker and 3Ir. Kulpk Gorham are the classroom teach ers for these two classes. Experimenlal Reading. Class Tried Another claJss is aimed at im proving the students’ aWllty to read. This sophomore class uses a reading laboratory to help the students progress from their pre sent level to a higher level. This multi-level program is designed to improve individual basic reading techniques in speed, comprehen sion, vocabulary and general read- If the saying, “Dynamite comes in small packages” is correct. Mike plans to further his education by entering the Uni- Students Have Fun In School Activities At Summer Groups "V^Tiile some students were work ing and playing; several Senior Highers attended conventions and special schools this summer.- Ann Pullen and Cltve Cherry went to Wlldacres, a youth con ference on human relations spon sored by the Civitan club. They attended group discussions on all kinds of topics dealing with human relations. Attending. Girls State at Wo man’s College were Anne Battle and Glenda Ferrell while Ed Dunn went to Boys’ State at Carolina. Delegates studied parliamentary procedure and elected a governor and other officers paralleling the State set up. This conference is sponsored by the American Legion. Honey McIntyre studied drama tics at U. N. C. for five weeks.
