THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1959 THE BLACKBIBD, ROCKY MOUNT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PAGE THREE ^Wilmington, Here We Come!’ “Tickets, please,’’ says the conduc. tor after stu dents boarded the ‘Blackbird Special’ enroute to Wil mington. (Photos by John Fleming.) Most anything in the line of food was sold at the concession stand sponsored by the Social Committee. Fans Board ‘Blackbird Special’ In Hopes Of Football Victory By Margaret Avera “All aboard,” shouted the con ductor as the “Blackbird Special,” full of eager students chugged away from the station on its way to Wil- Kiington, October 2, in hopes of a football victory. School spirit was bubbling over during the 3 hour trip. Singing, yelling, and lots of talking were heard from one end of the train to the other. The cheerleaders played an important part iii arousing school spirit. Everything from A to Z was happening; playing bridge, eating, talking, and just plain “ole’’ fun! The social cormnittee sponsored a concession stand in a box car, and sold soft di'inks, sandwiches, dough nuts, nabs, candy and other etlble items. Students interested in home- cooking brought picnic suppers with everything possible on the menu. When the train pulled into the port city station at least 10 buses and a police escort were waiting to take the group to the Legion Sta dium. The game was exciting but Rocky Mount just couldn’t get throu- gih the ‘WiTdcat’ line. Wilmington defeated the “Blackbirds’’ 12-0. Returning home the “Blackbird Special” wasn’t quite as lively. The weary travelers were drained of energy and a bit depressed. The trip ended about 1:30 as the “Blackbird Special” pulled into the local sta tion. Chaperones were Miss Louise Park, er, Mrs. Hiram Cuthrell, Mrs. Jim Horne, Mrs. W. W. Wiggins, Mrs. W. M. Widdifield, Mr. and Mrs. C. V, Lundy, Miss Lois Winslow and Miss Lynda Rice. —YOUTH SHOP’S— Campus Room Brenda Strickland Sunset Pharmacy PRESCRIPTIONS Tel, 6-5333, 1601 W. Thomas St. FLOWERS!
