Photo by Killebrew Marshal Selected By Honor Society Commencement Juniior members of the National Honor Society elected one of their number. Skipper Tuttle, to serve as Chief Marshal for Graduation Exercises of the Class of 1962. Seniors Win Awards From Many Colleges Senior Day Activities Plaixned By Various Senior Committees Senior Day is a day set aside on J’jne 4 that all Seniors look for ward to every year. The day starts off with a breakfast, then a free movie at the Center Theater, Ves per Services, supper and then a dance. At 9:00 Mrs. Bailey an dher com mittee which includes Marita Ros ental, chairman, and her co-wark- ers, Linda Gupton, Rita Abernathy, Jimmy Davis, Pru Eatman, Mari lyn Ward, Lanny Shuff, and Clara Williams have planned the break fast wlxich will be served at the Rio Restaurant. After breakfast the Seniors will return to school to praietice for graduation. Seniors are then allowed to be DiUon Smpply Co. 348 S. WasJiinfftoii St. Phone 2-2161 free until 2:45 when they will be entertained by a free movie at the Center Theater. Following the movie a Vesper Service will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church with several sen iors taking part in the service. Members ot the Vesper Service committee are Judy Kincheloe and Ann Millar, co-chairman, Sheila Murchison, Thomas Faulkner, Amy Rooker, MoUie Hughes, Doug Mat thews, and Normjan Thompson. A supper sponsored by the PTSA in honor of the Class of 1962 wiU be given at Josh BuUock’s at 6:30. To bring the day to a perfect end a dance wUl be given in the Student Lounge also sponsored by the PTSA. Mrs. Lundy and Mrs. Teague are guiding this committee. Those helping to prepare for the dance are Margie Parrish, chair man., Kay MuUen, Sandra Whit field, Becky DsRatt, Kemp Phillips, Diane WiiUialf, Roberi: K. Smith and Mary Cox. His duties' will include attending practices for graduation and es corting Seniors into Baccalaureate Services and into Graduation Ex ercises. Skipper, an outstanding student, has seirved as President of the Jun ior Class first semester, American Field Service Finalist, Alternate to Boy’s State, Discussion Group . leader in District Student Council Congress, Delegate to State Stu dent Council Congress, Delegate to Junior Science Symposi'im, Homeroom Officer, and Treasurer of the Service Club. EJach year the junior members of the Honor Society act as mar shals for the graduating class. They distribu;te programs at both Baccalaureate Services and Grad uation Exercises and welcome guests. Other members of the Society who wiU serve with Skipper are Ginina Aldridge, Greg Low, Dwight Thomas. Ruth Ward, Routh Oates, Pete Raper, Hilton Barrett, Jim McChesney, Martha Jane Carson, Bebo White, Eddie Allen, and Jim my Hubbard. These students have brought credit to their school and themselves. University Of North Carolina Donald Carson has beeni award ed “The Chair of History Award” which is worth $250 annually. Over a four year period this will total $1,000. The Escheats Scholarship wordi $200 annually was awarded to Charles Meyer. As long as Charles maintains a C average he can keep this $800 scholarship. Lanny Shuff, a talented writer, who will attend Carolina next year won the My Tme Security con test with a $50 prize. Meredith College Kay Brock, past president of the National Honor Society, is the re cipient of a Meredith Freshman Scholarship amounting to $400. Jeanne Bryant also received a Meredith Freshman award valued at $250 in addition to a Teacher’s Loan Scholarship worth $350. East Carolina Susan Putnam and Kay Rash have both received scholarships from East Carolina College. Su san’s scholarship is worth $200 and Kay’s is valued at $100. Wesleyan College Charlie Price has been notified that he has been selected for a $1,000 scholarship to Wesleyan College. This money is to be divid ed over a four year period. An $1,000 scholarship, worth $450 per year, has been awarded to Brenda EzzeUe. Pfeiffer College Diane Wilhalf, an outstanding science student, is the recipient of a $1,200 award to Pfeiffer College. She intends to study science. Triple Awards A Wake Forest Scholarship val ued at $650, a North Carolina Tea cher s Scholarship Loan worth $350, and the Elk’s Most Vaulaible Student Award for the amount of $100 has been given to Mary Cox. Mary, an A student is the recipient of the largest amount of grants. Greensboro College Greensboro College’s only grant to a member of the Class of 1962 of Rocky Mount Senior High went to Diane Suttles. The award is valued at $300 for one year. Petersburg School Of Nursing Petersburg General Hospital School of Nursing has selected Faye Bass to be the recipient of a $225 award. Campbell College A $100 grant has been awarded to Becky DeRatt for study at Campbell College. This award is for four years. Pilot Club Scholarship Marita Rosental, an outstanding Senior, was the recipient of a local Pilot Club Award. After winning the award she competed with the applicants all over the State for the State Pilot Club Scholarship The membersr of the Senior Class of Rocky Mount Senior High was proud that she won a $500 scholar ship. Baseball Scholarship A scholarship for baseball has been given to Wayne Dunn.
