THE BLACKBIRD, ROCKY MOUNT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Dudley Whitley, Miss Linda Lunsford, Jim Baggett, and Mrs. Kay Utley are the four new teachers at Rocky Mount Senior High this year. FOUR NEW TEACHERS COME TO SENIOR HIGH THIS YEAR Coach Dudley Whitley, Mr. Jim Baggett, Miss Linda Luns ford, and Mrs. Kay Utley are the four new teachers at Rocky Mount Senior High School. Coach Whitley, a former student of RMSH, after gradu ating from State College, be gan coaching at R. M. Wilson Junior High School before coming here. Miss Lunsford, a former resident of Roxsboro, was graduated from Duke Uniser- sity and is teaching in the chemistry department. Mir. Baggett, origionally from Palm Harbor, Florida, attend ed Chipola Jr. College for two years and the University of Florida for one year. He then spent two years in West Ger many with the Air Force. Af ter leaving the service, he re turned to the University of Tampa. After graduation, in June, 1962, he attended Dilke University graduate school. He will receive his M.A. from Duke in the summer of 1963. Mrs. Utley, a former Wilson resident, was graduated from Atlantic Christian College. This year, she will teach physical education for girls, she will have one study hall, and she will teach a practical math class. Fri. & Sat. ’Til 9 Seniors Assigned New Homeroom Due to overcrowded con ditions in the senior home rooms, a new homeroom was created with Mrs. Sue Hay worth as the teacher. The homeroom will be com posed of a few students from each homeroom and one new student from out of state. Coach Henry Trevathan, upon being promoted to as sistant football coach, had to give up his senior homeroom. Mrs. Thelma Lundy will take over his homeroom for this year. Office Registers 41 New Students This year. Rocky Mount Senior High School received a total of 41 new students from several counties and different states. This group cons'ists of 11 sophomores, 16 junors, 14 seniors. There are 7 sophomore home rooms which have new stu dents; H.R. 207, Ross Garris; H.R. 215, Rodney Lyn Keller; H.R. 102, Robert Liles and Timothy Smith; H.R. 126, Evi0 Smith; H.R. 214, William Young; H.R. 115, Killey Yousef, Barbara Anne Adams, and Shirley Ann Harrell. H.R. 215, Tony Batchlor and Rodney Lyn Keller; H.R. 102, Robert Liles and Timothy Smith; H.R. 126, Evie Smith; H.R. 214, William Young; H.R. Anne Adams, and Shirley Ann Harrell. Eight junior homerooms have new students: H.R. 130, Wiley Bradley, Mike Chaney, and Annette Moore; H.R. 209, Wal ter Cheatham, Ben Neiville, and Margaret Karen Harmon; H.R. 118, Linda Sue Gibbs and Brenda Carol Sulton; H.R. 204, Roger Glascow, Marcia Gay, Sandra Faye Newsome, and Mary Smith; H.R. 122, Freddie Goblet and Ray Hundley; K.R. 114, Carol Mortiner; H.R. 208, Judy Jackson. There are seven senior home rooms with new students: H.R. 211, Joyce Culpepper, Andrew Davenport, Jerome Hodges, Carol McMlahorn, and Tommy Tecterds; H.R. 219, Ehterest Ann Clark; H.R. 106, Ernisto Arroyo; H.R. 120, Rose Marie Cronins and Allen Wester; H.R. 112, Betty Lee Gray and Mel vin Hill; HR. 216, Virginia Jackson, Tony Batchlor; H.R. Ronald Jackson; H.R. 128, Susan Hall. TWO SCHOOL OFFICERS NAMED ROTARY BOY, GIRL OF MONTH Principal C. M. Edson an nounced that David Williams and Jan McCrary are the new Rotaty Boy and Girl of the month. David rounds out hij activities by running the 880 in track. The honor of Rotary Girl goes to a very deserving and intelligent girl whom we konw ay Jan McCrary. Her qualifications include homeroom offices, “B” honor roll, and program committee for the Jr. Sr. She has been a Student Legislature Repre sentative and is presently ser ving as Secretary of the Stu dent Organization. Jan has also done much in spreading the good will of Senior High by representing us at the Jr. Science Symposi um, Eastern District Student Council, and the Student Coun cil Congress. David WlUiams is this month*! Rotary Boy. Vice-President of the Student Organization this year and Vice-President of the Junior Class last year. He also served as President of and Treasurer of his homeroom and President of the Dramatics Club. This year David finds time to work on the Hi-Noc-Ar Sti^f, social committee, and youth council. David was se lected to be the host to our foreign exchange student, Ern esto Arroyo, from Costa Rica. In scouts, he is the recipient of the Eagle Badge and the God and Country Award.
