Woody Woodcock Known to Students
As "Living legend of Senior High
//
Few men become legends and
even fewer become legends dur
ing their life’s span. Senior High
has a living legend In the person
of Mr. A. C. Woodcock.
“Woody” as everyone who
knows him calls him isemployed
by the Trallways Bus Company,
He has been driving a bus for
twelve years and has a twelve
year safety record.
“Woody” enjoys all forms of
athletics, especially football.
During the past five years, he
has driven on every bus trip in
football, basketball, and baseball.
He always cheers for Rocky
Mount, and it is hard to find a
more enthusiastic supporter of
Senior High’s athletic teams.
During football games he sits
on the bench with the team (when
he is sitting down which is not
too often during the actual play-
int of the game) and talks to
players and referees. During our
'recent game with Fayetteville
“Woody” told the referee that
the yards markers were being |
kept incorrectly, and was II
promptly told that they were and
that he should sit down, watch
the game, and keep his comments
to himself.
For an example of his place
in the students’ minds, listen for
the name “Woody” if you are
at a game out of town , and you
will hear it more than once
because the students look for him
as soon as they enter the stadium
or gymnasium.
Last May “Woody” opened a
business establishment, Woody’s
Coin Shop, on South Washington
Street here In Rocky Mount. He
stated that if any student has a
coin collection or is starting one,
come see him anytime.
‘ ‘ Woody’ ’ Woodcock will be at all
the games the Blackbirds playa-
way from home 'this year, and
probably for the next ten years,
and will remain the living legend
of Senior High.
Faulty Bells Lead
To School Disorder
A recent clock disorder caused
a shortened day for some students
of Senior High on Wednesday,
October 3, disorder among
students caused by the mal--
function of school bells reached
its climax. At 3:25 a bell rang
and a large number of students
left school to go home. The day
officially ended ten minutes later
when Mr, Edson announced that
school was dismissed.
This calamity had its beginn
ing Friday, September 28 at the
end of fifth period. The automatic
bell on the master clock in the
office started ringing and would
not stop. Finally Mrs. Carr dis
connected the clock and later it
was discovered that the automatic
bells were broken.
Because clocks throughout the
school were not synchronized
with the master clock in the
office, bells had to be rung
by hand for three days. While
the master clock was being re
paired, the metal enclosure
surrounding It had to be removed
a nd a maze of wire was exposed
to . all visitors of the office

principal purpose of the course.

to mimeograph machines), elec
tric typewriters, Burroughs
adding machines, Monroe cal
culators, and Dictaphones.
Mrs. White instructs the class
at first period, but there are
girls in the office practice room

In order to gain practical
experience for later life, one

for T.V. American History, one
aids Mr. Gorham In T. V. World
