C. Kisses Are Numbered By Mistletoe Berries Mistletoe figures in many legends from pre-Christian times. Druid tree-worshippers believed it had magical pow ers of healing. Romans thought that enemies who met beneath the mistletoe must kiss and declare a day’s truce. Today, kissing beneath the^ mistletoe remains a happy holiday custom. Correct pro cedure is that a berry must be removed for every kiss taken, and when all the berries are gone, there are no more kisses available. Camilo Pascual and Jim Kaat of ttie Twins and Dick Donovan of tlje Indians turned in five shut outs each last season. li k Wrennie Pitt is all smiles at his “homecoming”. Danny Talbott and Eunice Snipes, an announcer for VIHBED, express the happiness of the thousands of Blackbird fans who are relieved that Wrennie is home and will soon be back on his feet. (Photo by Killebrew) Hundreds On Hand To Greet Pitt Hundreds of students and local fans tui’ned out to welcome home Wrennie Pitt, star Blackbird half-backer who was injured in the championship game, when he returned from the Baptist Hos pital in Winston-Salme. Cheerleaders, students, teach ers, 'members of the team, coaches, parents, newsmen, photographers, and fans made up the cheering crowd which came out in the cold night to give Wrennie a warm welcome, and a vote of appreciation. As the ambulance which was carrying Wrennie pulled up be side of the school, a tre mendous roar went up. Every one crowded around to catch a glimpse of the smiling hero. All that could be seen of the am bulance was the flashing red light. as a mass of yelling and jump ing humanity converged upon it. Shouts of "Welcome home!” “Good to see ya man!” “How ya feel Charcoal?”, and “Let me see! Let me see!” were deafening. Wrennie, one of the top stars in Rocky Mount’s drive in win ning the state 4-A crown, suffered internal injuries as a result of a crushing tackle in the first half of the championship game with Winston-Salem. He underwent surgery in the Baptist Hospital the following Monday for the re moval of a ruptured spleen. He has been experiencing a cri tical and painful recovery since his operation. Shortly after his operation, the doctors were worried about a slight case of pneumonia, but Wrennie re sponded quickly to medication and is not progressing very satis factorily. It is expected that he will not return to school until sometime after the first of next year. In four seasons, Syracuse freshman football teams have compiled a 14-1-1 record under coach Jim Shrove.
