Magazine Faye Langley has been named Co - ed Correspondent for the 1962-1963 school year, according to an announcement by Margaret Hauser, editor of Co-ed Maga zine. The Co-Ed is a magazine, designed for career girls and homemakers of tomorrow. Faye is in the 11th grade and is taking home economics for the first time in Senior High this year. Her appointment was made by Miss Grant, home economics teacher. Selected for her qualities of leadership and her enthusiasm for home economics, Faye will serve as junior advisor to the editors of Co-Ed, national maga zine for teen-age girls, and will keep them informed of activities at Rocky Mount Senior High School. There are more than 2500 Co-Ed correspondents throughout the United States and Canada^ The Los Angeles Angels re corded 15 shutouts last season. ‘'Since what I do daily is of eternal significance for good or ill, I have the responsibility to live honorably.” With these words taken from the Honor Code, Greg Low, pre sident . of the Student Organi zation, began sophomore orien tation December 3, during acti vity period in the Senior High (auditorium. Six prominant seniors explained the purpose of the Honor Code to the sophomores. Gloria McDonald stressed the importance of truthfulness. She summarized the main thought of her explanation by saying, “When you lie, you deceive only your self.” The Importance of being con structive was explained by Dwight Thomas. As stated in the Honor Code, “When I am destructive, I dishonor the fruits of others’ knowledge.” According to Greg Low, being charitable i s a very important portion of the Honor Code. He used a blown-up example of what powers gossip holds. His example showed how the powers of gossip could even destroy a nation. Bebo White discussed how the use of profanity reflects back on the user. He told the students that profanity is the way a small mind tries to express itself forcefully. “I respect others’ property” quoted CarolettaJordan. She went on to explain that when a person steals, he admits that he is not strong enough to secure some thing by his own labor. Personal Honor Code cards will be available to all sophomores at the beginning of second sem ester. The purpose of this trip was to observe the treatment of the mentally ill. The bus, which was chartered and paid for by the students, left Senio r High at 8:30 Thursday morning. During this part of the psy chology course, the students have been studying mental health and mental illness. They have learned ho w to deal with the mentally ill, and that it Is a sickness which must be treated by a trained staff of doctors and nurses. If after the visit to the men tal hospital, sufficient time re- maines, the students tiad planned to visit the State Home for the Blind, also in Raleigh.
