Brenda Allen, Martha Kincheloe, and Josephint Vann were chosen as candidates for this award. Faculty mem bers who had workr-d with any one of these girls at least one semester cast a vote. They sc- locted Brenda Allen as DAR citi zen. The basis of this selection was: (1) Dependability, faith fulness, loyalty and punctuality, (2) Service, co-operation, cour tesy, consideration of othors, and civic activities, (3) Leader ship; personality and (4) Pat riotism; unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation. PTA Sponsors Open House Here The usual hurry-scurry of classroom changes was magni fied Tuesday night, October 26, when the P. T. A. business meet ing £ind open house was held at RMSH. Although no record was taken, most teachers agree that the attendance was good. The purpose of the open house was to familiarize the parents with the teachers and school system. To do this, the parents followed their son or daughter’s daily schedule with shortened periods. Each f)eriod lasted five minutes with four minutes be tween classes. He’ll laugh at the joke before the Brazilians have time to read it.” Ann Rob ertson made this comment Fri day, October 29 during an American Field Service assemb ly program. This assembly program was held during activity period for the entire school. Gay Lyles, the American Field Service Committee chairman was in charge of the assembly. She was introduced by Scotty Mc Cullough, vice-president of the student body. Gay begcin by naming the members of the American Field Service Student Committee and the officers of the adult com mittee. Emi Manabe, Rocky Mount Senior High School foreign stu dent from Takamatsu, Japan, spoke next. She is a senior and is living with Anne Townsend, also a senior. Emi stated that she was very happy to be here and that everyone had been nice to her. Gay introduced Kathy Cherry and Beverly Rosser as AFS Americans Abroad candidates from RMIK for next summer. Kathy and Beverly had been seated on stage and they both stood when introduced. Ann Rdberitson, AFS Ameri cans Abroad from RMSHS this past summer, spoke to the stu dents about some of her most interesting experionces in Bra zil. She then called Eddie Bays- den, president of the Student Organization, to the rostrum and she presented a statue to the student ibody through him. This statue was a representation of the Christ statue located on top of Corcovado Mountain in the city of Rio de Janeiro, com monly known as the Qirist of the Andes. Gay presented a history of AFS committees in RMSHS. Pictures of past AFS foreign students were shown to the stu dent body. Gay then talked about gifts that have been given to the school by some of these foreign students and one given by Mimi Munden. Dianne Mayo was introduced as a recipient of a $400 scholar ship from the local ATS. Dianne was a finalist in national com- petions with AFS. She chose to go to South America with Inter- njatipnal Fellowship. Spending the summer in Cali, Columbia, Dianne had many invaluable ex periences. DANIEL'S, INC.
