Friday, April 14, 1967 TBE BLACKBIRD l*ace 3 CHUCK BALL AND TERESA RHODES have been named Rotary Couple for the month of April by RMHS Principal Mr. Vincent J. Colombo. RMHS Students Migrated To The Beach For Easter Chuck Ball And Teresa Rhodes Are Rotary Couple For April Fart Lauderdale, Daytona, Miami, Oceaa Drive, and Morehead are names now synonomous with RMHS and Ealster vacaitions. Each year thousands of studenits migrate to the nation’s beachels. Among this mighty throng are ■a few from RMHS. They go toward the magneitic force Which draws this multi tude of teenagers is known commonly as the “FUve S’s.” Several Senior boys were quietly reclining around Bud Dixon’s Motel in Morehead City when the members of a popular singing group ap peared on the scene. Roger Stancil quickly recognized the members of the combo and acted swiftly in securing a fire hose to “extinguish (the Em bers.” Dan Ballance and Air- thiir Marcus tried in despair to restrain Roger, but to no avail as the Embers went down in a i>uff of smoke and steam. Sophomores Jerry Powell and Billy Jones were among the few who dared (to brave the mighty Morehead surf. For itheir efforts they received frozen wax and many chill bumps. Hie outdoorsman that he is. Jack Coillins chose to see the beach by spending his holidays as a hermit in a pup tent. Though Jack was staying alone, he welcomed many vis itors to his home away from home. Bill Griffin ann Sandy Nal- ley set la new record for More- head Beach. They flew a kite up to 2800 feet when a passing plane plucked it from the sky. Snoopy and the Red Baron pedisonified. Until the weekend after the Junior-Senior, iMay 19-21, the beaches were (temjporarily abandoned by the RMHS stu dents. ’I^ie Rotary boy and girl for the month of April are Chuck Bail and Teresa Rhodes. Teresa is Chairman of the Student Or ganization Elections Committee and Chuck is Chairman of the Traffic Committee. Have you ever wondered who is the one person responsible for leading the nominations of candidates for school and class officers and who is in charge of the weU-planned andi organ ized elections poxjgram at RMHS? Leading the elections com mittee is a big responsibility and Teresa handles her job with the enthusiasm and eager ness that characterizes her per sonality. There arie few people who don’t know Teresa’s name, if nJot her face. During her' very rare spare time, Teresa enjoys a variety of outdoor sports. Her interest in water skiing holds first place as a hoibby. Teresa says, “I love so many sponts, you wouldn’t be able to put them all in the paper.” Her favorite food is shi^abob 'and her fa vorite car is her Volkswagen convertable, of course. Teresa is undecided as to her course of study at St. Mary’s Junior College, Where she plans to arttend. She wiM take a regular liberal arts course and then hopes to trans fer to Carolina in her junior year. Teresa laughingly admits that one of her greatesi proiblems is her “ibig feet.” “The most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me was tripping over nothing at all and falUng dbwn the steps at a baseball game.” Everyone finds Teresa dis plays the very quaMties sihe considers most important in a person, “honesty, good man- niers, and trustworthiness.” “I think girls should try to keep the respect of everyone. I hate girls who gossip”. There are certain duties and positions which are inseperat- able from the well-being of our school. Among these few hon ored posts is that of Traffic Committee Cliairman. Co- or- dinator of daily school traffic, keeiper of parkinig lot, and bestower of official sanction on ithe Grand Prix of Senior High, this person has great influence. In reference to his abilities in this area and others. Rotary Boy of the Month for April is Chuck Ball. All around great guy. Chuck has an amiable personality and participates in all school activities. As a member of the football, basketiball, and track teams, he exemplifies school spirit at its best. W|hen asked his opinion about schoofl. spirit this year, he said it was great and the school really seemed to be behind the teams., In conclu- sion, he had this comment to make, “It’s great to have people behind you even when you’re losing.” Roscoe Griffin Shoe Co. 218 s.
