And what ha® Bill done that’s so outstanding? You name it! Bill is a Moirehead Scholar. He is also a finalist in the National Merit competition, co-chairman of the Senior Breakfast Com mittee, a mem'ber of the Fel lowship of Christian Athletes, the Phalanx Club, and the Scfajool Spirit Committee. What else does Bill do? Well, his main uiterest, outside of school, is athletics. He played both J. V. land varsity football, imtil an injury maide him un able to pamticipate in the game. In his spart time (he does find some!), Bill iilkes to lift weights, hunit, or play tennis. He is an independent thinker. One of the strongest points of Iiis personality is his ability to act according to his sitandards, not necessarily those of “the crowd.” He isnot, however, a recluse—Bill enjoys being with others, aiid doing things requir ing group participation. As for the future? Bill will, nati rally, attend the Univer sity of North Carolina at Chapel HiM. He plans to combine his vocational interests in math and science for a career in business. Dance Baud Entertains Sounds of Cinamon Kisses, Bemie’s Tune and other favor ites rang through the auditor ium Saturday, April 1. The Rjocky Mount Senior High School Band was presenting their annual Jazz Festival. The fesctival was sponored to finance a trip to Wlashinglton, D. C., for the band to partici pate in a parade. Gireeted with applause of enjoyment, the dance tend provided an evening of pleasure for young and old. Members of ithe dance band come from a very select group of musicians since they must first audition to be in the band. The dance band was formed three years ago by Frank Ham mond, former band instructor, who felt ithiat the special talents of a few students should be recognized. They perform for piuiMic audiences, but are niot allowed to be payeld for their entertainment. Members of the band are Jim Middleton, Jim Bailey, Grey- son Shuff, Henry Gorham, Jackie Hayes, John Daugh- tridge, Frank Bradley, Scott Swain, Altoe Maitthews, Grey Rivenlbark, Jeff Wilson, R. L. Quick-Witted Jill Bateman Looks Forward To College Jill Bateman, a feminine, slender blonde Is the happy re cipient of the Outstanding Student Oar for April. Of herself, she says, “I have a preitty dull life.” However, this must not be true. How can one who is iso involved in community and school life be diuU? She 'Sings soprano in both the R.M.S.H. choir and the Modernaires. For the past few years this vivacious, quick witted seniioo* has been enaoy- ing her work in the Girl Scouts. Her work for the past three years in the office has heOiped give her the poise and knowledge that she shows at her job qb a part-time office girl at a local car dealer’s of fice. Art has always been one of Jill’s pastimes. As various red- letter days or seasons appear, she can be found creating spec ial decorations for her home. She Ukes all sorts of crafts. Jill also enjoys painting from photographs. One can easily see that she is in her “Sevenitli Heaven” in her art course this year. Right now, Jill is working on her senior theme on L£iD. When questioned as to why s'he picked this smbject, S'he replied that she did not know much about it, but that it interesits her sinice it affects the lives of so many people, esjjecially college students.
