Rotary Couple Attend ECU This month’s Rotary Cou ple is Karen Colombo and William, better known as Greg, Copely. This couple is quite “off the beaten path”. Rotary Girl Who’s the girl with the long brown hair seen speeding around town picking up ad copy? Who’s the hard work ing girl laying out the ads for this paper? Why, its the Blackbird’s own adlvertisling Manager, Haren Colombo. Everyone knows Karen for her wit and sparkling sense of humor. When telling of her hilarious escapes, her bright eyes light up with laughter. One senses here a bit of hidden mischief lurking afoot. As Karen attempts her salesgirl talk at the Junior Junction in Belk Tylers, her customers can see she’s so full of life. Dancing and walk ing on the beach made Ka ren’s summer. Karen has held many a re sponsibility around school such as a representative to JOYNER’S 1 . ATHLETIC HOUSE 446-6159 124 Tarboro vSt the Student Organization, chairman of the School Spirit Committee, treasurer of the Good Sports Club, a member of the National Honor Society, of course Advertising Mana ger of the Blackbird. Greg and Karen both plan to further their education by at tending EJast Carolina Univer sity for the next four years. When this Rotary couple hits the campus, watch out! The SOS Club presented a talent show Friday night, March 7, in the school audi- toriip. First, an attractive foreign girl. Miss Varune Virabddhana from Thailand, walked out on the stage in a native costume. Directly be hind her was Richard Hem- merle, the Master of Cere monies, who introduced the first act, the Blackbird Ballet. Next Benjie Martindale and Page Lea plunged head on into the controversial subject of which university is better, UNC-Ohapel Hill or NC State Perhaps the perform ance that obtained the major ity of “oohs” and “ahs” was the one in which Pat Taylor performed in a tap-dancing routine. Sandra Lewis from Booker T. Washington Senior High followed by doing a splendid job of singing “Every Little Bit Hurts.” At this time, three RMSH cuties appeared indi vidually and sang three ap propriate songs for young maidens on the threshold of wmanhood. Mary Grace Far ris, Marie Easley, and Donna Armstrong all displayed out standing talent in the act. Immediately following this number, a very perjcy and pretty sophomore, Belinda Carver, danced to the music of “These Boots Are Made For Walking” as she twirled her baton. Her almost flaw less routine showed that much time, effort, and practice are involved in the art of twirling a baton gracefully. Then three lovely young ladies, the Emeralds, from Booker T. Washington Senior High sang an act incorporat ing graceful movements and lovely voices. This was frfllow- ed by a very patrotic and beautifully arranged com position by Elaine Puckett, who played “The BatUe Hymn of the Republic” on the piano. Finally the Brotherly Love appeared and ended the show by singing their very popular recording, “Elaine. Elaine.” Student Council Congress Assembles To Elect Officers, Discuss Business The Eastern District Stu dent Organization Cbngress will meet this year Friday, March 2 , at Goldsboro Sen ior High School.
