Preparations Are
Almost Completed
For Junior-Senior
All right men, get off your
seats, and start asking these
women, “Hey sweetie, whatcha
doin’ May 7?”
Everyone knows that In less
than two weeks the long await
ed Junior-i^nior Prom will be
a reality. Cooperation, creati
vity, and hardwork are being
combined to make this prom a
memorial night for the Class of
1971.
Various committees were
formed to plan and prepare vit
al aspects of the activity. A
Dating Committee was organi
zed to aid students in finding
dates for the “big” event. If
a student desired help in selec
ting a date, he or she was ask
ed to give Information con
cerning the type of person de
sired.
The decoration committee
chose the Japanese theme of
“Sayonara”, which means
good-bye, as the JuniorClass’s ‘
good-bye to the seniors. A
pegota will be the center at
traction in the Mall. Adding
to the lovely decor will be beau
tiful oriental gardens.
For all you people who like
to rock and “Dance to the
music,” the entertainment
committee lined up “The Com
pany” a swinging group from
Durham. They will be grooving
on “soul” and psychedelic mu
sic.
Everyone looks forward to
seeing the outstanding mem
bers of the junior and senior
classes. This year, the Figure
Committee plans to present
these students in a Japanese
fan.
After hard dancing and finger
popping everyone will need
some refreshments. It's ru
mored that the Refreshment
Committee is really planning
some great goodies.
All junior and senior stu
dents, as well as the guests,
will require an invitation to
the prom. The Invitations Com
mittee is double checking all
lists to make sure that no one
is left out.
Last, but not least, let us
remember the Clean-Up Com
mittee, who will be engaged in
a “cleaning-up after party.”
Well I'll leave you with this
piece of advice, guys, words
were never spoken with closed
lips, so open your mouths and
start asking! For what? . . .
why, a date stupid!

Nominating Plans
For S.O. Officers
Given To School
Hey, how did she get to run
for that office? Why didn't they
choose me? If he can run Iknow
I can.
These are some of the fami
liar sounds heards after the
nominating committee announc
ed the candidates for the of
fices of the S.R.A. Everyone
probably wondered how and
why the candidates were selec
ted.
According to Article XI, Sec
tion 1 of the Constitution, the
retiring president appoints stu
dents to a nominating commit
tee. The president selects stu
dents at random, seeing that
each of the three classes, sex,
and race is represented.
Students are selected on the
basis of their leadership, de
votion and character. Since
there are no set number of
candidates for each office, the
nominations are narrowed down
by voting within the committee.
A member of the nominating
committee, rising junior, or
rising senior can be nominated
for any office; therefore ris
ing juniors (present sopho
mores) can be nominated for
president of the S.R.A. U a
student desires to petition for
an office he or she must get
an official petition blank from
the Guidance Office and the sig
natures of at least 15% of the
student body.
The Auxtralian Ballot Is used
In elections. Members of the
nominating committee count
the ballots under the supervi
sion of a faculty member from
the Guidance Office,
Every student has an oppor
tunity to register. Each year,
for about one week the regis
tration books are opened.
