Win Or Lose ... Its How You
Play The Game ... What?
We are now going to take
an In-depth view of a locker
room alter a championship
game. We will be Impartial and
cover both the winners and
losers. This story could be true
about any level of competition
(high school, college, profes
sional). It couM be any sport.
I am now in the winner’s
locker room. There is cham
pagne flowing everywhere. The
hero of the game is being
mobbed and congratulated by his
teammates. There is the coach
sitting down in the corner cry
ing. Saying to members of the
press, “I am so proud of these
guys. They came back when they
had to. And that break near the
end of the game that gave us
the win. We were very lucky,”
The press Is now talking to the
captain, “We played one of the
best games of the year. That
Anderson hasn’t played up to
his potential until today, Man,
was he beautiful!”
LOSER’S LUCK
Now I am In the loser’s
locker room. There is a ghostly

gloom in here. The players ai€
slowly peeling off their uni
forms. Disappointment rakes a-
cross their faces. The coach,
awed by the situation of losing,
wonders why did the team lose.
The reporters are going to In
terview, “They gave them a
heck of a fight. We were un
derdogs but we played like
champions. In fact, we would
have won if it wans’t for An
derson. We stop their main
men, but that Anderson. A whole
season of trials, my men played
a beautiful game. Being under
dogs we almost won. But al
most is not enough.” The cap
tain of the team voices his
opinion, “Our team tried but
their experience and bench
strength' flanlly took Its toll.
Our fans are the greatest. You
can believe that.”
LOOK OUT!
So, all you teams beware of
championship games. Someone
must win; someone must lose.
Try to win in the best of your
ability. Also, when you lose,
lose graciously. If these words
of wisdom do not appear to
you, ask the Baltimore Orioles
when they lost to the Mets and
the Pirates. Ask the Dallas
Cowboys who lost In waning to
Green Bay Packers and Balti
more Colts or finally
ask the Los Angeles Lakers
who lost to the crippled New
York Knlcks for the champion-
ship. Now doest thou believe?

Gryphs Bow To
Cougar’s Eleven
With the highest showing of
school spirit yet this year the
Gryphon football team was sent
to Goldsboro Friday, October
15. They did not go alone, how
ever, as three band buses, three
student buses, and many other
rooters , accompanied the
Gryphs. All this mustered
school spirit couldn’t deny the
unbeaten Cougers their victory
though.^ The Rocky Mount-
Goldsboro’s offensive punches
were stifeled until the fourth
quarter.
HERE COME THE COUGARS
It was not until there were
four and one-half minutes left to
play that the dead lock was brok

fourth and four situation on the

Ronnie Precise dropped back
as if to punt but found wing-
back Hardy right up the middle
for a screen pass. Hardy man

RM five where it squirted loose,
Goldsboro’s Will Rogers fell
on the ball in the end zone for
a 6-0 Cougar lead. Goldsboro
racked up 1 more as the ex

NOT AGAIN?
On the next Gryphon drive,
Roscoe Batt’s pass was picked
off by the versatile Hardy who
again returned it to the Gryphon
five. Precise sneaked over from
the 1 to nail down the final
score of the night.
Gryphon coach Watt Wiggins
