Friday, Decend)er 17.1971 THE GRYPHON Page 3 (Bib t diit mdo Thanks go to the Dramatics Department for the assembly given to the Juniors and Soph omores on December 3, This assembly featured two short plays; “Henny Penny” and “The Bremen Town Musicians.” Comments have been made that it was the best assembly all year. The Journalism class has en joyed new freedom, and the resulting responsibility, for this issue of The Gryphon, Due to her shoulder operation, Mrs, Williams has been leaving early in the day to go home and rest, leaving the Journalism class on its own. We of the Journalism class would like to tell Mrs, Willfams how much we have missed her. If you listen real well, you might hear the sound ofChrlst- mas carols in French and Spa nish echoing through the halls of RMSH. R seems that the snow on De cember 3 was a little early for Christmas, But it was a nice break from the usual to see snow falling on the school grounds. Have you Sophomores ever wondered what would happen If Santa Claus got stuck In the chimney on Christmas Eve. Well, don’t lose too much sleep over it; maybe he will go on a diet! For the lucky few who will receive cars for Christmas, let the Gryphon staff know if it was in your living room on Christmas morning — it might make an interesting picture. Have you noticed that Santa Claus really gets around? He’s at one store one minute and by the time you get to Tarrytown, he’s sitting on the mall as if he’d been there all day. It kind of shakes your faith in him, doesn’t it? You’d better get your Christ mas shopping done early or there won’t be anything left to buy a little nearer Christmas, not if the pace of buying con tinues as it is now. During the holidays, we should all try to remember the true meaning of Christmas and try to give in the true Christ mas spirit. The only sour note for the Christmas holidays is that everyone must take mid-term exams three weeks after we get back—except the Seniors, MERRY CHRISTMAS' a c 0 A Fables To Be Presented By RMSH Drama Students "Henny Penny” and “The Frog Prince”? What are they? They are just two of the seven short fables that Mr. William Rawls and twenty-ei^t of Ms students are performing for all of the elementary and junior high schools in Rocky Mount, That’s right! This is the first grand tour for Mr, Rawls and It is sure to be successfuL If you Juniors and Sopho mores remember the assem bly on December 3 that a few of the drama students presented you’ll know how enjoyable the plays are. Because of the suc cess of those two plays, the tour during January and Febru ary was definitely planned. Only one of the fa bles, “The Fisherman and His Wife,” will use costumes. Some special portable light ing equipment has been ac quired for this tour. This equip ment has been needed and want ed by Mr, Rawls and his de partment for a long time. The school will be adding to this supply of lighting equipment throughout the near future. In hopes that the janitor would throw them away; The students were daydream ing; you’d think we were dead. But visions of holidays danced in our heads; In study hall the Sophomores with all heart and soul. Were busy getting their letters off to the North Pole; When the bellfinally rang, there arose such a clatter, Mr, Newbern sprang up to exa mine the matter; The Sophomores were waiting for candy and gum While Juniors and Seniors were ready for FUN!! _ glass of champagne* As we looked out the window, much to our glee. The snowflakes were big, and delightful to see; The teachers were shouting at the top of their lungs. But as for the students,, the fUn had begun; The Sophomore bikes were cov ered with snow, But the cars in the parking lot were ready to go; More rapid than eagles the cars how they flew. Through the slush of the streets and the snow as it blew; Straight to our homes and warm houses we went. Where days of much happiness soon would be spent; So from all of the staff we wish with good cheer. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!!
