Then Mrs. Williams told them that they had to give talks on their themes—just like the Se niors. Panic! To stand in front of some thirty people and give a ten to fifteen minute talk on something that would bore them all to death was ask ing too much! But relax, there would be no additional assign ment during the two weeks that the talks were being given. Something gained, something lost, as they say. One day in English class, during the change of speakers, a student voiced the common opinion of all Juniors: “Mrs, Williams, it’s just not fair! We won’t have any homework for two whole weeks. What are we going to do with all of that extra time. Please give us something to do,” “Well,” replied Mrs. Wil liams, "H it’s that Important to you, do some Independent study for the next two weeks. You can turn in the results on Friday week.” A sigh of relief went through the class. The students were very happy to know that their next two weeks were to be fill ed with English work and they were not to simply drift by. Each student's mind raced quic kly over the possible subjects for his independent study, for he was overjoyed at the pros pect of this study, and could hardly wait to go home so he could begin work.
