THURSDAY, MAY 24, 1973 the gryphon PAGES Many Teachers From RMSH Finishing Career This Year Pictured above (left to right) are Mr. Prlvott, Mrs. HawUns, Mrs. Pace, and Miss Creech, four of the teachers that will no longer be teaching at RMSH next year. Masquers Are Announced At Auditorium Assembly RMSH regrets that they will be losing many fine teachers at the end of this school year. They are Mrs, Pace, Mrs. Ha wkins, Mrs. Sledge, Mr. Pri- vott, Mr, Burnett, Mrs. Bob bitt, Miss Creech and Mr. Long. They will surely be missed by the administration, faculty, stu dents, and former students, Mrs, Pace, is resigning from her long teaching career of twenty-two years. Although Mrs. Pace spent only five out of her twenty-two years of teach ing in Rocky Mount, we have all grown to respect and like her very much, Mrs, Pace decided to re sign so she could spend more time with her husband and fa mily and do all the things that she hasn’t been able to do in the past years, Mrs, Hawkins, the head of the Tarrytown Mallwas the scene of the annual Junior - Senior Prom, Friday, May 11, 1973, The Junior Senior prom, insti gated by the junior class, last ed from 9:00 p,m, until 1:00 a.m. Advised by faculty members, the junior class devised this years prom through five com mittees, Decorating, Invita tions, Clean - up, Refreshments and the Band committee. The band for the prom was Flic and His Orchestra, which play ed music that everyone enjoyed. The theme for the prom was A Caribbean Night; Dancing In The Moonlight, Parents, students, and guests were welcomed by members of the faculty and junior class. Upon entering the Mall, the boat surrounded by water and doljAlns captured many glances. Next, all eyes rested on the mural of the Cari bbean island. The giant moon was the center of attraction. It was directly behind the band stand. At llrOOp.m, outstanding stu dents of the senior class were recognisied. She will be moving in mid-June to Gad sden, Alabama where her hus band’s insurance and real estate agency Is located. Her home address will be 903 Edgecombe Drive,' She doesn’t plan to teach in Alabama but she does plan to do community work. showing the outstanding sen iors in and around the schooL Sarah Johnson, Carla Carter and Melanie Goff sang a song In the tune of “A Man and a Wo man” with a stanza written for each outstanding senior. They also sang the Senior Song, Pomp and Circumstance, with words written for the ^nior Class, Refreshments were served from a table near the entrance of the MalL There was ci tric acid punch, donut holes. Cheese straws, spanlsh nuts and assorted mints. Approximately 400 students attended the affair. Some of her plans include Vol untary Hospital Aid, work at a School for Retarded Children, and church work, Mrs, Bobbitt, a member of the history department, will be leaving this year. She has been teaching at RMSH since 1960, Her plans after retire ment Include substituting, be ing a pink lady at the hospital and catching up on oU friends. Mr, Burnett was born in Rocky Mount, He has studied at Shaw University, Meharry Medical School, New York Un iversity, Atlanta University, North Carolina State Univer sity, A and T University, and University of NorthCarolinaat Chapel HilL Mr. T, I, Long, a face fa miliar with the Rocky Mount School system for over twenty- five years, will also be leaving the halls of RMSH. As to what he will do with his spare time after retiring, Mr, Long replied he would “take It easy , . , I plan to travel, hunt and fish”, he stated. Mr. Prlvott was born in Chowan County In Edenton, He attended CamiA)ell College for two years and then studied at Wake Forest where he receiv ed his B,S. and his M.A. Mr. Prlvott majored in math and science. He has also taken courses at UNC-Chapel Hill and ECU, Mr, Privott Is very active In school work and outside work. Not only being active in the Professional Educational Or ganizations such as NCAE, and ACT, and spending a lot of time in the Lion’s,Club, he takes an ♦Pl^se turn to Paige 5 The newly elected Masquers for this year were tapped on May 11, Masquers are chosen by the preceding years Mas quers on a basis of outstand ing activity and attitude In dra ma. The first task the ne' - Mas quers undertake will be to have charge of the spring production beginning the May 22, and con tinuing through May 26, They will have charge of selling tic kets, managing the' box office, stage crew, ushers, make - up and some will even be appear ing in the plays. Those chsen were Alvls Battle, Ken Batchelor, Gene va (Chris) Beattie, Debbie Bo ne, Gloria Carney, JlUCarpen- ter, Becky Manning, Amy Max well, Susan Thompson, J, B, Warren, Angle White, Tom Ben nett, Lee Blackmon, Tony Brab ham, Zack Perkinson, Robert Vocational Programs (1 year In length) Auto Body Repair Auto Mechanics Child Care Ward, Robbie Benson, Jim Byrd, Bruce Jeans, Gwen Tay lor, Johnny Warren, Mary Gr ant, Norma Petway, John Riley, Tony Stone, Kent Washburn, Eddie Weaver, Jeanne Dare, and Thomas Moore, Those who have been chosen have put many long hours into working not only on contest plays but on the plays toured through the elementary schools and workshop plays as well.
