Rotary Couple French Teachers Plan Trip To Many New Exciting Places The honor of being December’s Rotary Couple goes to Wadye Morton and Gordon Vestal. While maintaining the title, Wadye and Gordon attend weekly Rotary Club meetings at thie Carlton House where they are introduced to other members of the club. WADYE MORTON Wadye, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Morton, has been previously featured in THE GRYPHON as one of the semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Negro Students. She received a NaticMial Merit Letter of Commendation and has been included in Merit’s book of WHO’S WHO. She is an active participant in the school band, a member of the Student Advisory Council, and at tended the North Carolina Governor’s School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is the business manager for the yearbook. Wadye is an outstanding student and was on the B honor roll for the first nine- weeks. At RMSH, she especially enjoys yearbo(* journalism. She likes to read and watch basketball games in her spare time. Wadye is a member of the Rhoers Club, an out-of-school organization which supports the March of Dimes, and the Cancer Crusade, her choice of a college for next year is not definite, but she would like to attend either John Hopkins or Wake Forest University. Regardless of which college she choses, Wadye plans to study pre-medicine. GORDON VESTAL Gordon Vestal IH, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon yestal, Jr. is president of National Honor Society, just one of the many activities he takes part in around school. Gordon was pictured in the October issue (rf THE GRYPHON as one of the Morehead Nominees. He has received a National Merit Letter of Commendation and was the representative to Boys’ State during the sum mer, which was held at Wake Forest University. Gc^lon is presently a representi-vive to theSRA and is the president of his homeroom. Gordon plans to attend N.C. State University next year, studying engineering. Surely he will be busy next year, but most likely he will find time for swimming, water skiing, fishing, hunting and other hobbies. Congratulations to Wadye and Gordon for being named as the Rotary Couple of the Month. Cape Kennedy Because of a nearly disastrous bolt of lightning that almost cancelled a moonshot, scientists at Cape Kennedy have developed an amazin^y accurate technique for predicting lightning. After the Apollo XII spacecraft was struck and the mission almost scrubbed, scientists pooled their various skills and now can pitq>oint a lightning strike with 90 percent accuracy. Using radar, special elec trostatic sensors, computers, weather planes, and common sense, they have mastered a technique that insures the safety of future missions and the lives of the work crews that man the tall rocket towers, reports the October SCIENCE DIGEST. This summer Mrs. Ann Williamson from Senior High and Mrs. Helen Nicholson from R. M. Wilson are plan ning to chaperone a group of RMSH students on a trip to France, which begins July 4 and ends August 6. They will begin their tour in London where they will spend their first three days visiting the many different sites, including Westminister Abbey and Buckingham Masquers is an honorary club of Dramatic students which have made outstanding contributifflis to the works of the Dramatic class. There are thirteen members in the club this year, and the officers are as fdlows: Ken Batchelor, president; Zack Perkinson, vice president; Angie White, secretary^ Amy Maxwell, treasurer. This year the club will have two tappings instead of just one like they usually do. One tapping will be during the winter and one in the spring. The Masquers in previous years haven’t participated in school activities, but this year the Masquers participated and won first place in the Homecoming Parade. They also entered the Thanksgiving Basket Contest, which also proves that they are school spirited. On October 30, there were many unusual faces at Senior High, but yet they weren’t strangers. The Masquers sponsored “Dress Up Day” for Halloween in which all drama student dressed as Palace. From London they will cross the English Channel by ferry to Le Harve, France, and will spend one ni^t there. Then the group will travel on to Tours where they will view the beautiful Cheteau County ' and then go to Paris. In Paris they will spend much time studying and touring the city. After two weeks in Paris, the group will move on to St. Jean de Luz where they will enjoy the beautiful beaches and will witches, ghosts, vampires and things the sophomores dress as to go trick or treating. In the spring the Masquers will be in charge (rf hosting the Carolina Dramatic noouciduuii a I. tflC IcHlK Theater. The CDA are Drama continue to learn more about the people of France. Their last few days will be spent in Madrid and Rome, and from Rome will return to the U.S. This group of students from RMSH will surely return to the U.S. with an experience that will have brought them much closer to understanding the life and the cities of the French people. Plans Year Festivals which drama students participate in from all over the state. They carry plays to the CDA for com petition with the schools. The Masquers hope to establish an even greater prestige fcr its members. FOR CHRISTMAS . .
