JANUARY 30. 1974 THE GRYPHON PAGE 11 Ik SPORTS SHORTS Quote of the Month: “Defeat is worse than death because you have to live with defeat.” -Bill Mussellman Richard Hicks, head coach of the mighty RMSH Basketball team, has been chosen to coach the East team of the East-West All-Star game. Congratulations go to Coach Hicks who is cer tainly worthy of so high an honor. The Defense Is the Name of the Game Award: Wilt Cham berlin after watching Jerry West score 32 points against rookie Ernie DiGregorio said, “That kid gets a mint of money and he can’t even guard his own underwear.” We’d like to take this opportunity to commend Mr. Davis for his excellent announcing at the Gryphon basketball games. It’s nice to hear who scored that basket or how many points such a player has scored - it settles a lot of disputes in the bleachers. The RMSH girl’s team practices directly before the Varsity, and, needless to say, some of the guys don’t like the thought of having to wait tor the girls to finish. They used to sit in the bleachers and watch the girls practice, but Coach Hicks won’t let them anymore. He probably doesn’t want them to pick up any bad habits. We are very sorry to hear that Doug Jeff coat is moving. Doug was a manager of the Varsity football and basketball teams. He is a hard-working young man who has served our teams well. The Wish I Had Said that Department “He doesn’t make the same mistake twice. He makes so many he doesn’t have time.” The “You Think You’ve Got Problems Award” goes to Bill Russell, coach of the Seattle Supersonics. When asked about the problems of his team, Russell said, “Offense, defense, and TEAMWORK. Other than that, we’re in good shape.” The Is It True'That.... Department; Is it true that.... Greg Dawes wrestles in slow motion? Donald Farmer goes to the beauty parlor before each wrestling match? Cecil Dunbar, 98 pound wrestler, eats health foods so he will be big and strong like Coach Bastain? Personal to Joe Jones. Wait till next issue.
