I’m not old enough!” “Old enough? Just as many young people go as old.” “Well, I don’t have an I.D.” “Come on! The only I.D. you’ll need is a smile.” And that is all you need to get in the Ancient of Days. The once nightclub is now a cof feehouse, reopened by several businessmen in Rocky Mount. When I say coffeehouse, you don’t just sit around and drink coffee, although if you want to. That’s what you can do! It’s a place where you can get together with friends and strangers, who by the end of the night will be your friends. Even if you’re able to slip in without a smile when nobody’s looking, you won’t be able to leave without one. Everyone will make sure of that. What is it about the Ancient of Days that can make frowning people smile, sad people happy, or discouraged people en couraged? It’s the at mosphere! A warm and friendly atmosphere created by adults, kids, guitars, and songs. There are many reasons, based on scripture passages, that the name remained the same. Besides removing the bars and plugging up the beer taps (for' good), it looks pretty much the same. There are posters covering the walls not, shouting out to all, the love and peace they hope everyone finds. There is now no need to complain about having nothing to do on the weekends or no place to go. On Friday night, anyone can drop in anytime between 7:30 and 10:30. Local groups, such as the Now Generation Singers will perform and of course Scott Wilkinson will be there bringing tears to your eyes with each note he sings. There is a set service with a speaker on Saturday nights, and the invitation to come out that night, too is issued for all. So, there you have it. Finally, a place where you can go and have fun and learn about yourself and others at the same time. So go on out and bring along some extra smiles in case someone forgot theirs. Unfortunately, people learn more from a bad ex perience than from good advice.
