MARCH 27, 1974 THE GRYPHON Bill Mebane, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Mebane, of 1404 West Haven Blvd. is the Kiwanis Boy for March. Bill is involved in many activities, both in and out of school. His school activities include the National Honor Society, Phalanx Club, second semester Junior Class Treasurer, and attendance at the Honors Seminars in the Sciences at E.C.U. Activities in which he participates outside of school include the Episcopal Young Churchmen (EYC). Golf and basketball are his favorite hobbies. When questioned about his feelings on being selected Kiwanis Boy for March, Bill replied, “It is a great honor being chosen to represent the Kiwanis Club during March.” The Gryphon staff congratulates Bill, upon his selection as March’s Kiwanis Boy. Gary Carter, A RMSH sophomore, received the Best Actor award. The GRYPHON staff congratulates Gary for winning this award. Health Occupations In the last issue of the GRYPHON concerning the list of girls in Health Oc cupations, two names were left out. These were Reece Lewis and Flora High. The list was one of all the girls taking Health Occupations II. Teen Board The Belk Tyler Teen Board held their annual spring fashion show March 23, 1974, on the second floor of Belk-Tyler’s Department Store. Some of the latest and most fashionable styles for warm weather were displayed. French Club Mrs. Anne Williamson is pleased to announce the in duction of a new member into the Vingt-Sur-Vingt Club. This student is Susan Mooring, a junior taking French 3. Susan has also earned a star in the club. To earn a star, a student already in the club must make another perfect score on a Vingt-Sur-Vingt test. The GRYPHON staff would like to congratulate Susan. Social Club Activities The Elegants Club shoed their school spirit by char tering a bus to Friday night’s game in Greensboro on March 1. The Charmettes gave a talent show March 2 at the OIC auditorium. The show began at 8 o’clock. The Betheletes Society collected for the Heart Fund on Heart Sunday. The T.A.C. Club collected for the Heart Fund. They will also take an active part in the “Smile Project” which is a nationwide effort to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. Start Planning for Prom May 3 is the big day and now is the time to start thinking about it. Correction In the last issue of the GRYPHON, credit for the! Black History Week bulletin boards was given to the Publicity Committee. The bulletin boards were actually done by the Bulletin Board Committee of the Black History Week Committee. Timely Suggestions For Gas Shortage It has now become a common occurance for long lines to form at gas stations.
