Phyllis Goffney and Susan
Mooring were chosen to at
tend Salem College at Winston
Salem, North Carolina this
summer. The main purpose of
the program is to further
educati(Hi and have a good
time doing it!
Susan and Phyllis were
chosen from four hundred
other students from all over
North Carolina. Special
Every Monday and
Wednesday afternoon the
Gymnastics room is occupied
by one of Rocky Mount Senior
High School’s less publicized
clubs. This club is the Modem
Dance Group advised by Mrs.
Betty Pryor.
The objective of the club
is to interpret modem music
into a dance. This is done
creatively by the girls in a
trial-by-error method. A
record is played, and each
girl dances, interpreting the
music into her own individual
dance. After the record has
fmished playuig, techniques
from each girl’s dance are
combined and a modem dance
is created.
The club has many ac
tivities planned for this year,
although many are still being
debat^ upon. These activities
include one assembly in the
spring, the possibility of
performing with the
Dramatics Club, oitertaining
at basketball games during
half-time, conducting money-
raising projects with the
Gymnastics Club, and per
forming out of school for the
public.
Although the girls are
satisfied with their per
formances last year, they are
anticipating a few changes

Classes were held every day

Many of the latest problems
and theories in the various
fields of the Arts and Sciences
are studied.
Phyllis and Susan said
they particularly liked their
French classes. It’s not for a
grade or a credit that these
students are there but for the
fun of leaming.
