Two RMSH Students Attend Governor's School In Officers Elected For Clubs Phyllis Goffney and Susan Mooring were chosen to at tend Salem College at Winston Salem, North Carolina this summer. The main purpose of the program is to further educati(Hi and have a good time doing it! Susan and Phyllis were chosen from four hundred other students from all over North Carolina. Special Every Monday and Wednesday afternoon the Gymnastics room is occupied by one of Rocky Mount Senior High School’s less publicized clubs. This club is the Modem Dance Group advised by Mrs. Betty Pryor. The objective of the club is to interpret modem music into a dance. This is done creatively by the girls in a trial-by-error method. A record is played, and each girl dances, interpreting the music into her own individual dance. After the record has fmished playuig, techniques from each girl’s dance are combined and a modem dance is created. The club has many ac tivities planned for this year, although many are still being debat^ upon. These activities include one assembly in the spring, the possibility of performing with the Dramatics Club, oitertaining at basketball games during half-time, conducting money- raising projects with the Gymnastics Club, and per forming out of school for the public. Although the girls are satisfied with their per formances last year, they are anticipating a few changes Am«rican Credit Compony Auto - Loans Recreational requirements were necessary to enter into Governor’s School such as a “B” average or better. The students had to be one of the top ten in their class. Every day for six weeks classes were held Monday through Saturday. Such courses as Psychology, Epitomology and Foreign Languages were offered. this year. They plan to per form more with recent music, and to switch from the red and black uniforms they wear now to brighter colored uniforms relating to the dances. They are also thinking of a possible new name for the club. Members of the club are Beverly Powell, Brenda Ellis, Thelma Lee, Cynthia Dew, Terry Hines, Mary Ann Reid, Cynthia Hinton, Robin Joe, and mascot Regell Pryor. Many of the latest problems and theories in the various fields of the Arts and Sciences are studied. Phyllis and Susan said they particularly liked their French classes. It’s not for a grade or a credit that these students are there but for the fun of leaming. “Success is like a cat. These clubs are organized by interested teachers and students who want to keep the school spirit alive and going. In order for these clubs to be effective they must be led by efficient and dedicated officers such as these: The Good Sports Club is led by Mrs. Barbara Ed wards. The President is Wanda Henderson, Vice- President: Stephanie Branch, Secretary: Cathy Allen, Treasurer: Eva Bartly. Advisor of the Service Club is Mrs. Jacqueline Heston. She is aided by President: Kim Wood, Vice- President; Debra Ess, Recording Secretary: Kim English, Corresponding Secretary; Susan Kitts, Treasurer: Ginger Harlow, Chaplain: Susan Batts. The members of the RMSH DECA Chapter are always involved actively in their classes. The class leaders are President; Marvin Thorne, Vice- President; Blaine Todd, Secretary; Gail Phillips, Treasurer: Libby Turner, Parliamentarian: Beverly Powell, Historian; Dawn Gindrup, Sgt. at Arms: Linda Battle, W.C. Allen. The Masquers are headed by drama teacher Mr. Bill Rawls. The officers are President: Mary Rowley, Vice-President: Tommy Bulluck, Secretary: Beverly Powell, Treasurer: Anne Daughtridge. Mrs. Betty Pryor, girl’s gym teacher, leads two very talented groups in the school. These are The Gymnastics Team and The Modern Dance Group. The officers for the Gymnastics are: President: Vickie Taylor, Vice- President: Julie Smith, Secretary: Anne Ramsey. Leaders of The Modern Dance Group include President: Cynthia Hinton, Vice- President: Robin Joe, Secretary-Treasurer: Brenda Reid. The Kudos Club headed by Mrs. Poole, has only elected their President, Beverly Powell, but they are making plans for the future.
