Qasses Hold Meetings To Plan Upcoming School Year On Thursday, Oct. 3, three consecutive class meetings were held. The sophomore class met first period, the junior class met second period, and the senior class met third period. The purpose of these meetings was to make plans for the up coming school year. The first portion of business to be taken care of was the same for each class. Officers were installed and each Advisory Council member spoke to his class. Susan Kitts then spoke about the Student Store, Stephanie Branch explained the Lost and Found Committee, Bryant Aldreidge outlined the Elections Committee, and Nancy Davis discussed the magazine sales. During the sophomore class meeting, Miss Kitchin defined the school Constitution and the election of homerov m officers. Mr. Hutchisson also spoke to the Speakers for the junior class meeting included Miss Kitchin and Mrs. Tweedy. Miss Kitchin told of the Americans Abroad Program. Mrs. Tweedy ex plained the upcoming PSAT, which will be held October 26, and she also handed out the booklets concerning the PSAT. Miss Kitchin also spoke at the senior class meeting. She ex plained the Foster Child Program, which has become a senior tradition. Seniors will decide by a ballot vote in homeroom whether or not to continue this tradition. Miss Kitchin then announced the SAT and explained that Financial Aid applications could be ob tained in the Guidance Center. Senior class officers are: Frank Inscoe, president; Sara Jane Collier, vice president; Gwen Henderson, secretary; and Kim Nelson, treasurer. Junior class officers include: ATTENTION College Bound students! There is no longer the need for you to waste your hard earned money by taking the SAT twice. Students are in formed that after this year their scores from one test will be enough. They are told that there is usually so little change that to lake the test twice couldn’t help or harm the student that much; although present seniors who took the SAT last year are urged to retake it this year. This information along with a lot of other important details was discussed at East Carolina University at a workshop for guidance counselors, Wed nesday, Oct. 9. Two local counselors, Mrs. Edythe Tweedy and Mrs. Kate Kichin attended this affair along with other counselors from Nash, Edgecombe and Pitt counties. The meeting was held in the new Student Center. The guest speaker, Mr. Walter Jacobs from Atlanta, Ga., divided the meeting into three sessions. The first of these sessions dealt with the SAT and Achievement Test with em phasis on the students filling out their applications and in- Scholarships (Continued from page one) He has been involved in Jaycee football for two years. Here are seven points to remember about the SAT: 1) Test scores, like all types of measurements are not perfectly precise and should not be treated as though they were. 2) Although test scores are good predictors of performance in college, they aren’t perfect predictors. 3) Students do not have to earn very high scores to be admitted to college. 4) As useful as they are, test scores should never be used in isolation but should be con sidered along with the high school record. 5) Tests like the SAT and the Achievement Test measure certain characteristics basic to academic success in college, certainly not all. 6) The SAT score represents only a measure of ability. 7) SAT scores do not pretend to measure or predict “success in life.” This year for the first time there will be two sub scores for verbal score: 1) vocabulary 2) reading compensation. Probably the most important information was in session two. This was about the College Scholarship Service, and helping students and parents fill out the financial aid ap plications. The earlier colleges receive this information, the more likely a student is to get a loan, grant or scholarship. The third session dealt with student decision making. Mrs. Kitchin and Mrs. Tweedy remind students that the next SAT for which it is possible to apply is December 7, 1974. Regular registration deadline was October 24 and late registration deadline is November 7. “Halloween Greetings, my little chic-a-dees! ” The Oarlton House Motor lodge And Restaurant Rocky Mount TRY REFRESHING SUN DROP Raleigh Rd.
