(Photo by Bryant) College Students Practice Teaching At Senior High “I think it’s a great school!” Steve Brown, a student teacher, made this remark concerning Rocky Mount Senior High. At the present lime three student teachers are practicing at Rocky Mount Senior High. They are working under the super vision of Mrs. Jacqueline Heston, Mrs. Elaine Rose, and Mrs. Mae Batts. Steve Brown, Mrs. Heston’s student teacher will remain at Rocky Mount Senior High until December 13. He is a senior at North Carolina in Chapel Hill where he is majoring in Social Studies and Education. Mr. Brown is from Waynesville. His Cafeteria Offers Milkshakes The thick cold liquid slipped down my throat, and around me I could see the happy smiles of RMSH students as they got their first taste of one of senior high’s favorite beverages, the milkshake. “Hey! They’re good!” the students cri^, a statement rarely heard in our infamous school cafeteria. For only 39( they could buy one of those fantastic goopy concolions in either chocolate or vanilla, Of course, there are a few people who do not like milkshakes or who are holding out for the day of hot fudge sundaes. If the milkshakes survive their 30-day trial without being convicted of in digestion or malnutrition, these kids may get their wish! outside activities include snow- skiing and golf. He is presently teaching two classes a day and will eventually teach all four of Mrs. Heston’s history classes. Miss Lmda Precythe, the student teacher working under Mrs. Rose is from Faison. She arrived in Rocky Mount on October 21 and will remain until December 13. She is a senior at ihe University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Miss Precythe is temporarily living with relatives in Spring Hope. Mrs. Jean Jackson working under the supervision of Mrs. Batts is a native of Rocky Mount. She began her work here at RMSH the first of October and will continue here until December 6. She first attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and transferred to Wesleyn when she began her practice teaching, Mrs. Jackson has three children ages 14,12, and 9. VICA Officers Attend District Meeting The VICA Club journeyed to Garner Senior High School on Saturday, Nov. 16, to attend the first District VICA Leadership Training Conference. This important conference was attended by the presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and editors of various high schools in North Carolina. Those representing RMSH were David Thompson, Andre Bissette, Vickie Tanner, Earl Yemans, and Mike Tapia. Pamela Wilson, the second vice president, was unable to attend. After the opening ceremonies, several guests of honor gave RMSH Hosts Choral Festival Rocky Mount Senior High will host a Christmas Concert on December 12. Mr. Gupton, music instructor, informed the Gryphon that the best choirs in the Rocky Mount City School system have been invited to participate in the choral festival. The Rocky Mount Senior High School Choir and Women’s Glee Club are to represent the Music Depart ment from Senior High. This concert will be the largest choir ensemble to ever amass in the RMSH auditorium. Over 700 voices will be involved in the concert. The en tertainment will consist of both sacred and secular music. The program begins at 7:30 and there will be no admission charge. speeches pertaining to the purposes of VICA. Later, the officers attended discussion meetings of their respective offices. The purpose of the meetings was to install in the officers ideas for improvement and to establish what is ex pected of them. The meetings helped to promote a feeling of cooperation among the officers and gave them numerous ideas on fulfilling their duties. HOW DO YOU DO? Few pwple never do the right thing.
