THE GRYPHON — Page Nine (Photos by Mayberry) 1975 A Disappointing Season The Mighty Gryphs traveled to Northern Nash on Halloween and expected to spook the Knights. By the end of the game, however, their score did not win. The Knights won 18-14. The Knights scored twice in the 2nd quarter, and wealed the victory with another score during the 4th quarter. The Knight’s first touchdown came on a yard run by Craig Smith. Royce Wells caught 45 yards pass for the second quarter score. The score stayed the same until the fourth quarter, when Rocky Mount’s Mike Upchurch plunged up the middle from the one yard line for the score. The Knights followed later with a fumble recovery in the end zone. Senior High played its last game against Wilson Fike at Municipal Stadium, which ended in a Wilson 7-Rocky Mount 7, scored during the second quarter. Sophomore Bart Ferrel made a 14 yard pass run to Spence Allen. The score remained 7-0 until the third quarter. Gryph defensive back, Dennis Coit picked off at the pass and started 45 yards for Senior High score. The score remained the same the rest of the game. During the fourth quarter with 20 seconds left. Rocky Speight missed a field goal, that could have won the game. At the weekly Booster Club meeting, when asked, what he thought about next year’s team. Coach Walt Wiggins said, “We’ve got a lot of people coming back next year.” Sykes Garage 713 N.
