(Photo by F. Woodley) Couple Honored \ Two seniors chosen for this month’s Rotary Couple are Heloisa Martins and Jeff Joyner. Jeff Joyner, an NHS member, tennis and basketball star, and a member of the Elections Committee, feels that being selected as a part of a Rotary Couple is really a gratifying honor which he appreciates and will never forget. Heloisa Martins, the vivac ious APS exchange student, shows the talent, skill, and character it takes to be a part of a Rotary Couple by being involved with such things as AFS, SRA, as well as being on the tennis and basketball teams. ”1 11 is not merely for today but for all time to come that we should perpetuate for our children s children that great and free government which we have enjoyed all of our lives.” ...Abraham Lincoln Mr. Cutts’ history class was visited on Friday, Mar. 19 by a North Carolina Wesleyan stu dent. What made this visit special was that the student, Theophilus Ejim, was from Nigeria. Ejim spoke to the classes on living in Africa. Most people have the wrong ideas about Africa. It is a modern and civilized country, not a jungle. However, the weather is different than the U.S., since the temperature in Africa is often over 100 degrees. Ejim is a member of the Ibo Tribe, one of six or seven tribes in Nigeria. Each tribe has its own language, but all speak English. He added that he has been speaking English since he was six. Mr. Ejim was originally a student at Ohio State Universi ty, but he transferred to Wesleyan where he has been for four semesters. He plans to return to Africa after completing his Master’s De gree. Kenny Bras well Selected Kenny Braswell has been chosen as K'wanis person for the month of March. His wide range of interest encompasses writing, camping, and athletics. He is unique in that he pursues these activities not only for achievement but also for enjoyment. Kenny has received a national award in writing from the National Council of Teach ers of English to which he submitted an essay on "The American Dream." He also serves as copy editor of the Hi-Noc-Ar. The senior is actively involved in athletics. He plays both football and baseball for Senior High. On his speech to the businessmen of the Kiwanis Club he requested their support for the baseball team in an attempt to generate community interest in school activities. Scouting has probably played a major role in shaping his character. Kenny has obtained Eagle Scout status and has served on the Executive Council of Exploring In Eastern North Carolina. Kenny plans to attend Carolina next year as a pre-law student. Tarrytown Opticians Tarrytown Mali 443-6741 Mon.-Sat. John A.
