Page Six — THE GRYPHON — Tuesday, June 1,1976 Students Show Creativity In the tenth grade English classes a course called “Creative Writing” is taught. As a part of this class students write poetry, both formal and free style. Teachers report many interesting pieces have come from the classes. This article presents works by sophomores Carrie Clements and Kay Batts, and from an alumnus of the class, Billy Carroll. “The Beautiful People’ By Carrie Clements Oceans cry by moonlight hurt by noonday sun And people cry at sunrise unloved; uncared; no one And beautiful people walk in this world waiting to be found But most cry at the ocean’s edge hoping to be drowned. To leave behind the median those of us that survive Walking that very straight centerline pretending we’re not quite alive. And beautiful people are crushed by the sea the elite of the multitude finally are free From the bondage of the nameless from their cages of same. Pray for these people. We’re the cause; we’re to blame. "The Rains Came”. By Kay Batts The cool soft rains fall from the sky. Fresh drops of moisture through the air fly. Tumbling to a brown thirsty earth. Dry meadows sing with gladness and mirth. Trickling down the gutters, dancing in the lanes. Down to the rivers run the crystal rains. Feather drops on lilied ponds splash, Bullet drops on tin roofs crash. A Copper-skinned farmer to his field he walks, In the midst of the seeds to God he talks. With tear filled eyes gazes into the air, Closing his eyes he whispers a prayer. Wiping his face on the sleeve of his shirt. He turns and plods through the wet black dirt. The fields and meadows are no longer the same. They were blest by the cooling rains that came. ? 0^ I Lll “He” By Billy Carroll FOUNTAIN'S RADIO & TV SERVICE 309 TARBORO STREET ROCKY MOUNT, N. C. 27801 446-B594 442-6315 His youth kept him from knowing. Yet, he was always too young. In the beginning he sought an answer. One he believed to be correct. Life taught him otherwise. He resumed the search. The groping became frantic. Was he lost? Was he searching for identity? No! He was trying to comprehend. Trapped within his struggle. He failed to realize. The human mind is finite. He is not capable of grasping all. He must accept an existence. He must strive to learn as much as he can. back to nature Bicycles By Schwinn, Peugeot LIGHTWEIGHT CAM PING GEAR BY ALPINE DESIGNERS “We repair all makes of bicycles” back to nature 1610 Sunset 442-7119 TAPE CITY 301 By-Pass South — Rocky Mount, N.
