Mrs. Erma Dudley teaches Sociology, a senior course, to 28 students in room 008 during third period. Sociology deals with group behavior and the relationships among men. The sociology class plans to visit the Edgecombe Department of Social Services and to host a speaker from the department according to Mrs. Dudley. Cheryl Bryant, a senior, commented about Sociology. “I enjoy the course because it allows me to understand people and their problems better.” Ray Little, a senior, noted, “I think the course will help the student understand society better, but at the same time, it’s proving to be interesting.” Mrs. Beth Biggerstaff teaches psychology, a senior elective, in room 130, second and third period to 59 students. Psychol ogy students study behavior, including growth and develop ment, perception, conditioning, and personality. The classes intend to visit Wesleyan’s psychology department accord ing to Mrs. Biggerstaff. Lanie Powell, a senior, stated, “Psychology helps you to understand your behaviors. It gives you a clear picture of how and why your mind functions the way it does.” “I feel that the majority of the senior class has the ability to cope with their behavior traits. This is why psychology should only be offered to seniors,” remarked Georgia Miller, a senior. Mrs. Peggy Murray de- velopes the creative writing skills of 14 students every day during third period in room 118. The students keep individual journals, and the ideas in them will be the starting point for the book each student must write during the semester. The purpose of the class is to discover our creativity and put it into writing.” Katrina Joyner, a senior added, “Creative writing is a very interesting course. The journals we write are related to the things that happen to us or strong feelings that we have about something we would like to express.” Mrs. Betty Penny teaches consumer education in room 206 during third period to 17 students. The students learn the principles behind becoming better buyers. They learn how to set up credit, buy life insurance, manage a budget, save and “The only complaint one can make about Maynard Ferguson is that the 44-year-old high-note trumpeter’s concerts leave his audience too exhausted,” stated the March 2, 1973, ST. PAUL’S DISPATCH. Maynard Ferguson, a rising jazz-rock trumpeter is scheduled for a two hour concert at Rocky Mount Senior High Auditorium. Maynard Ferguson, who is rapidly becoming a popular star has recorded seven albums. All of them have proven to be very dramatic. His latest album. Primal Scream, is filled with many approaches: brass, wood winds, and strings. “All in all, invest money, and manage time and energy. They also try to see the quality in items according to Mrs. Penny. During the semester, each student will have to set up a family budget. “Consumer Education is a part of everyday life. It points out exactly what to look for in order to get the most for your money,” observed Robin Clay, a senior. Robert Lane, also a senior, noted, “Consumer Edu cation is a common sense course. It is designed to give the young shopper a clear outlook of the world of shopping.” “Primal Scream,’’ is an interesting album that increases the worth of horns in today's ever-changing sounds. It also reminds us that Maynard Ferguson is one old-timer who refuses to fade with the sounds of the past’’ says Michael Edwards of Billboard Magazine. He adds, “Maynard Ferguson is truly a master of his own.” This special concert is to be sponsored by the Rocky Mount Senior High Jazz Band. According to members, they have worked heartily and eagerly with the project. Wednesday night, Oct. 20 at 8:00, the performance will begin. The tickets are $5.00. Sykes, the jazz band director, says he is anticipating the concert. He feels that if people will listen to Maynard, they will enjoy his quality and ability as a musician.
