Page Four — THE GRYPHON — April 7, 1977 HonorsRoundUp Clubs Make Plans For Future Events Rotary Couple Selected Active senior Denise Ward has been chosen as the March Rotary girl. When asked about her activities outside school, she replied “I like tennis, swim ming, bowling or just all sports in general. 1 was on the tennis team also.” Denise enjoys drama and is in Dramatics this year. “It’s sort of embarrassing but a lot of fun.” “I don’t have a a job right now,” she stated, “but I probably will this summer.” Denise plans to go to Carolina to further her educa tion. “I want to take on a double major in nursing and teaching,” she said. Richard Oxendine sat back trying to relax and said “now you can start the interview.” Richard has been chosen as March’s Rotary boy. “I enjoy different sports but mostly tennis and karate. I also run track.” Richard was able to attend Governor’s School last year. He was asked about his plans for next year, and he said, “I plan on going to ECU and majoring in business management. I also won a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship.” DENISE PARTICIPATES: Denise Ward Is involved in the Music Club and was vice president for the Senior Class last semester. She is now homeroom secretary and was chosen as an Outstanding Senior. RICHARD PARTICIPATES: Richard Oxendhie Is in the President’s Cabinet and is also the chairman of the Fire Drill Committee. He is a member of the Chamber Choir, too. [Photo by Hutchisson] Booster Oub The Booster Club is planning to help out with the upcoming baseball tournament. They are also taking in new members. Service Club The Service Club is getting ready for the Easter Sunrise Service. The service will be held April 6 at 7:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Music Club The Music Club is now teaching music lessons on Monday afternoons. Piano, guitar, and dance are being taught. The Club attended the Atlantic Rhythm Band Concert at Wesleyan College on March 11. Music Club members are getting ready to silk screen T-shirts for their club. A Crafts Show is being talked about for a spring activity. Good Sports Club The Good Sports Club has set the date for the Athletic Picnic. It will be May 18th. Kiwanis Person Chosen Batts, Dudley, Winstead Help General Assembly Johanna Lancaster has been chosen as Kiwanis person for March. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Service Club, and co-circulation manag er of the Hi-Noc-Ar. Johanna works outside school at the Rocky Mount Sanitarium as a switchboard operator. “The work is easy and I enjoy it,” she stated. Also outside of school she enjoys sewing and reading. She helps the Now Generation Singers as a song leader. After finishing high school she plans to attend the University of North Carolina and major in nursing or child piiyscblogyi JOHANNA PARTICIPATES: Johanna is a member of the Service Club, National Honor Society, and co-circulation manager of the Hl-Noc-Ar. She eqjoys reading and sewing. [Photo by Hutchisson] Seminar Class To Invade Washington Thursday, Apr. 14, the Seminar classes are leaving for Washington, D.C. During the day the students and chaperones will visit the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, The Smithson ian and various monuments. Also in Washington, the students will attend the America Concert at Capital Center and take a cruise down the Potomac River as night activities. To help raise money the students held car washes at First United Methodist Church and at Bobbitt’s Exxon at Tarrytown. The combined total for these events was $157.50. Students also had a bake sale on March 19 where they raised $219.89. This money will be used to pay for some of the chaperones’ expenses and pos sibly a portion of the night activities. The chaperones for the trip are Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Aldridge, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Taylor and also Mr. John Woollen. Kaye Batts, Karen Dudley, and Janet Winstead have been chosen to serve as Pagettes in the North Carolina General Assembly. Kaye was appointed by Mr. Allen Barbee and Karen was appointed by Mr. John Ed Davenport. Kaye and Karen, members of the Junior Class, served the week of March 21 through March 25. Janet, a member of the Senior Class, served the week of March 28 through April 2. The students were notified of their appoint ments by letters from the Honorable Earl Stewart, speak er of the House of Representa- 'tives. When the House is in session the pagettes run errands for the representatives. Mostly they carry messages betw.een them. When the House in not in session, they assist the repre sentatives in their offices. When asked how they felt Kaye replied, “I have served as a Pagette once before. It is a worthwhile experience and I am pleased to have been appointed again.”'.Janet said, ‘‘I’m interested in the working of democratic government on the state level. I look forward to this opportunity to make my small contribution to our state.” Karen could not be reached for a comment, but her mother explained that she looks forward to this rich experiences with great anticipation.
