Page Four — THE GRYPHON — May 31, 1977 HonorsRoundUp Kiwanis Person Chosen ‘‘I was very surprised and happy to be selected” states Terri Williams, Kiwanis person for May. “At the first meeting the speaker was very interest ing. The meetings are really educational.” Terri works at the Cinema I and II. She likes to travel, dance, and play the piano. She wants to be a language interpreter and to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. TERRI PARTICIPATES: Terri Williams is the Kudos Club President, a member of the NHS, and was a Junior Varsity Cheerleader. Rotary Couple Selected Natasha Matkin and Joseph Williams have been chosen as the Rotary couple for May. “I enjoy dining with the Rotarians. They’re a jolly bunch,” says Natasha. “It’s a very nice honor.” She plans to major in political science at the University of Chicago. “I was very shocked” states Joseph. “They told me I was Rotary couple 30 minutes before the meeting started. The food is a change from Senior High’s lunches.” He likes to swim, play basketball, tennis, and socialize. He plans to attend Hampton Institute and to major in business administration. NATASHA WORKS AT SCHOOL: Natasha Matiiin is a member of the Hi-Noc-Ar and NHS. She served as the APS exchange student last year and Junior Class Vice President. She also was the General Mills Family Leader of Tomorrow and a Morehead Nominee. Pash, Medlin To Leave Mr. Pash After 34 years with the Rocky Mount school system, Mr. George Pash is retiring. He plans to travel and to spend time with his daughter. Mr. Pash plans to return as a substitute some next year. Mr. Pash says, “These days have been the happiest. It took me a long time to make my decision.” (Mr. Pash says that his biggest worry is his replacement). Mrs. Medlin Mrs. Carol Medlin is leaving at the first of June to go to Burlington. She said what she would miss the most will be the “Friendliness of the people.” She says that people here are initially friendly. Mrs. Medlin’s husband has bought five acres of land on a lake and three Arabian horses to train. She said that she looks forward to training them. Minges Anticipate Baby GRYPHON Members Going To Chapel Hill Four students, Clifton Barnes, Bill Brannon, Keith King, and John Smith, will attend a journalism seminar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during June 19-22. Clifton, Keith, and John will serve as Gryphon officers for ’77-78. Bill is a new member of the Gryphon staff. Each day, the students will attend classes ranging from investigative reporting to layout and production. At night, there will be a dance or the students may choose to play pin-ball. The Gryphon will be entering in several division contests such as; best overall, photography, sports, features, and news. Staff members may submit articles which they’ve written in the past year in the various divisions for prizes. An awards luncheon on Wednesday, June 22 will conclude the convention. Mrs. Morrie Minges, art teacher at Rocky Mount Senior High, is expecting a little one the last of November. Her husband, John Thomas Minges Jr., and herself aren’t sure if they want a girl or a boy. If it’s a girl they are going to name her Amy Elizabeth. And it’s a boy, they’re going to name him John Thomas III, after his daddy. “I hope I have a “Gerber baby,” but he’ll probably turn out ugly,” says Mrs. Minges. Miss Hargrove To Wed Mrs. Linda Gail Hargrove, English/Spanish teacher at RMSH, has announced her engagement to Jimmie Lewis Farmer of Wilson. Miss Hargrove is a graduate of North Carolina Central Uni versity. Her fiance is a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technology University. A July 2 wedding is planned at the Zion First Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. Booster Club Inducts Members The new members of the Junior Booster Club for the 1977-78 year are as follows: Patricia Joyner, Eleanor Lee, Lynn Moore, Sheri Goudie, Beth Myers, Wanda Chavis, Regina Brown, Sonya Howell", Pam Hudgins, Cathey Sharpe, Lisa Howard, Nancy Davis, Lorie Thome, Sherry Leonard, Caro-, line Kilpatrick, Sheri Vines, Kitty Harrison.
