PAGE 4-THE GRYPHON, NOVEMBER 2, 1977 Organizations Share Plans Kudos Club The Kudos Club recently elected new officers: Shari Gou- di, president; Carol Arrington, Vice president: Hope Reese, secretary; and Toni LaGrange, treasurer. Mr. Frank Emery is their new advisor. All new members of the Kudos Club attended a Coke party on September 29. The club’s first project was working on the Homecoming float. Their next project is entering the annual Thanksgiv ing Basket Contest. Good Sports Club Each Friday, before school and during homeroom, memb ers of the Good Sports Club sell ribbons for the varsity football games. Recently they sold pom poms and Homecoming corsag es for the Homecoming g^me. Several Good Sports Club members respondeid to how they feel about the service they offer. They all agree that ribbon-selling promotes school spirit throughout the school on the days of games. Jessica Brown stated that in addition to promoting school spirit the ribbons and pom poms serve as good souvenirs. Starletta Wig gins another club member, said Booster Busses Encourage Fans “The parents can’t take their kids to a lot of rames and they don’t really want them out on the highway,” states Mr. Sam Eberdt. The members of the Booster Club, mostly parents of stu dents or former students of Rocky Mount Senior High, sup port the varsity teamis. They help support the teams by arranging for more people to go to the out of town games. They get busses together and sell tickets so that students can have a safe way to and from the games out of the city. “Around 40 students went to the Green ville game on the bus and we hope in the future there will be enough to fill up five or six busses,” says Mr. Eberdt. The Booster Club meets on Tuesday nights. They see films of the games and invite the Gryphons of the Week to dinner and to present them with a trophy. SPORTS that the ribbons let students be more aware of who we are playing, and the club members get to meet new students in the school through sales. Several students who are not members of the club agree that the ribbons raise school spirit. Sam Clonts stated that the ribbons are real nice. “The ribbons give everybody a sense of identity to the school and team. If they can’t attend the game, by buying a ribbon people can still show their support.” Distributive Education The Distributive Education Club will leave for Smithfield- Selma, Nov. 10 to go to a District Leadership Confer ence. They will compete with other schools in Job Interviews, Advertising and Public Speak ing. Meldin Paris will compete in the District level in Job Interviews. In Public Speaking, Charles Mercer wiU compete. And running for District Offic ers are Pam Pope and Ed Harris. Eight officers recently at tended an Officers Training Conference in Roanoke Rapids. The officers were Reginald Edge, Ed Harris, Jackie New ton, Pam Pope, Debbie Boone, Tonya Dugan, Cherly Shackle ford and Marian Bullock. SRA The Student Representative Assembly has been participat ing in a wide variety of activi ties. These activities range from social events to leadership techniques. All students who have just entered the Rocky Mount School System were invited. Homeroom representatives of the Student Representative Assembly attended a dutch dinner at Bonanza on October 26. This is an annual event which will occur again at the beginning of the second semes ter. The. representatives who attended the Mars Hill Summer Workshop led the students in songs and games. On October 29 several stu dents from Rocky Mount Senior High attended the Division 5 leadership workshop at South ern Nash. Kaye Batts, senior, was a leader of a discussion on “How to Better'Relations with Your Administrators.” FHA-HERO The Future Homemakers of America-Home Economics Re lated Occupations, under the direction of Mrs. Pat Epps, plans a variety of activities this month. A membership drive ended on Friday, October 21. A Dis trict 3 Rally will be held on Wednesday, November 2 at the Civic Center in Raleigh. Only affiliated members can attend this rally. Class officers will be elected on Monday, October 24, and Chapter officers will be elected at a later date. * 1 % t 'TSJ, Photo by B. Hutchisson Student Honored Steve Dickens has been chos en Kiwanis person for this month. Steve is a s enior at Rocky Mount Senior High. He is president of the senior class, vice president of his homeroom, cheerleader, and member of the school spirit committee. Steve says “I was shocked, pleased, honored and happy when I heard I was chosen.” Every month of the school year, a Kiwanis person is chosen. They are chosen on the basis of leadership, contribu tion to school and fellow stu dents and provided that they give good service to the com munity. He or she is chosen by Mr. Newbern and the Guidance personnel at Rocky Mount Sen ior High. Steve plans to attend Appala chian State, North Carolina .State or East Carolina Univer sity after graduation. He plans to major in Business or Aero nautical engfineering. Enjoy Coca-Cola.
