Rotary Couple Chosen
Two Seniors, Michael Ed
mond and Ann Dinan, have
been chosen as Rotary Couple
of the month. Both students are
actively involved in school acti
vities.
Michael is a member of the
National Honor Society and is
one of the two drum majors in
the Rocky Mount Senior High
Marching Band. He is also
President of his Missionary
Church Youth Group. Michael
enjoys basketball, football and
talking with other people. He
anticipates attending North
Carolina State University, ma
joring in engineering.
“I was happy and pleased
when I was told of my select
ion.” said Michael.
Ann is very interested in
horses and enjoys horseback
riding and swimming. She is
Vice-Prjesident of the National
Honor Society and a member of
the Phalanx Club and Latin
Club. Ann plans to attend the
University of North Carolina
and major in law.
Her reaction to being chosen
part of Rotary Couple was one
of excitement. “I was surprised.
I couldn’t Relieve it!”
Students selected as Rotary
Couples of the month are
chosen on the basis of being a
representative of the city. The
student must contribute to the
student body through academ
ics and school activities.

Clubs Stay Active
NHS
The National Honor Society
had a banquet for new memb
ers December 1 at Parkers
Barbecue. The new members
were entertained with songs
and games by the old members.
Mrs. Tweedy; former advisor
of the N.H.S., Mrs. Hayworth
and Mrs. Van Buskirk were
guests at the banquet.
The Christmas tree in the
student lounge was decorated
by the N.H.S. Most of the
decorations were hand made by
the members. Sarah Clements
headed the decoration commit
tee.
The N.H.S. members also
ushered at the Rocky Mount
Senior High Christmas Con
cert.
Good Sports Club
The Christmas Tree in the
main lobby was set up and
decorated by the Good Sports
Club under the direction of
Mrs. Joan Godwin. The Good
Sports Club puts up the tree
every year in the main lobby.
The Good Sports Club will
start selling ribbons for all
future home basketball games.
Library Club
The library has a, new eolleclr .
ion of recently published- titles-:
out now. The books are display
ed in the library and are ready
for circulation according to
Mrs. Davis. Lists of the books
will soon be put up in the
library and classrooms.
In January the library >club n
will set up a Swap-Shop Book
Nook. This activity will allow
students and faculty to swap
books that they have had at
home and have finished read
ing. This activity will continue
through the semester. All stu
dents are urged to come swap a
book.
The Library Club also has
been busy decorating the libra
ry for Christmas.
The Kiwanis person for the
month of December is Keith
King. On finding out he was
chosen, Keith went back to the
office and said: “Can you please
tell me again? I forgot every
thing you said.” He was busy
with a GRYPHON deadline and
they told him the afternoon
before he was to attend the
meeting.
According to Keith: “The
Kiwanis person attends each
meeting during the month he
has been chosen. They attend
luncheons every Thursday.
These luncheons feature guest
speakers. At the last meeting of
the month the Kiwanis person
makes a short address to the
group.”
Keith is the editor of THE
GRYPHON staff here. He has
an “A” average, he is a member
of the Traffic Committee, the
AFS Committee, and the Na
tional Honor Society. Keith is
