Another problem presented by the aftermath of Floyd is the rise in the mosquito population. The standing water left by the flood created a home for the mosqui toes. The increased number of mosquitoes has led to the threat of a disease called encephalitis. The state of New York has al ready reported an outbreak of the disease. The Environmen tal Protection Agency has ap proved an insecticide. Anvil, that is being sprayed from C- 130 transport planes. The insec ticide is designed to lower the number of mosquitoes in East ern North Carolina. Floyd will be remembered in the hearts and minds of resi dents for years to come.
