but also future customers. Most
will not have expendible in
come to spend on goods that are
not necessary.
Another problem presented by
the aftermath of Floyd is the rise
in the mosquito population. The
standing water left by the flood
created a home for the mosqui
toes. The increased number of
mosquitoes has led to the threat
of a disease called encephalitis.
The state of New York has al
ready reported an outbreak of
the disease. The Environmen
tal Protection Agency has ap
proved an insecticide. Anvil,
that is being sprayed from C-
130 transport planes. The insec
ticide is designed to lower the
number of mosquitoes in East
ern North Carolina.
Floyd will be remembered in
the hearts and minds of resi
dents for years to come.
Devestated communities are
beginning to rebuild, a process
which promises to be a long and
tedious one.

The US-64 and Highway-301 signs stand three fourths un
derwater. These signs are located above the new Lowes and
IHOP. Waters flooded Lowes and IHOP. Lowes re-opened
days after the waters receeded, but the rookie IHOP has re
mained closed for over a month.
