He replaced the departing Tony Cates. Bastian hopes to raise test scores and see a higher percent age of success in students. As he steps up to the position of principal. Dr. Kathy Lawson will be filling in as assistant principal. Cates, who left to become principal of Pinecrest High School in Pinehurst, N.C., says his decision to leave was a ca reer move. “ I really enjoyed being here and getting to know the students, staff, parents, and community,” Cates said. “I al ways hope that students and faculty have the most success.” On June 1, Bastian will offi ciate at graduation exercises. This year makes his twenty - fourth such event . . . and his last. In June, Batsian will retire. “Rocky Mount Senior High is like a home to me, both my sons graduated from here.” Just like the upcoming graduates, he is “sad to leave, but at the same time happy” to be moving on. Kristi Riley, Managing Editor Many seniors are filling out college applications for this fall. The application process is long and tedious, and there are many things that applicants need to know. Applications are available in the counseling office for in state schools. For most out-of- state schools, the applicant must send off for the application or obtain one from a website. All applications should be typed or printed in blue or black ink. It is very important that the applicant follow all directions in the package, being sure not to overlook anything. A miss ing element means a delay in ccHitinued(xip^2,C(dlege !Ho[c[s CandCe Light Induction In 9\/iemoriam Sana Odeh, Assistant Editor On Feb. 10, 22 students who maintained at least a 90 aver age in five vocational courses were inducted into the National Vocational Technical Honor Society during a candle light ceremony held in the Nashville Agriculture Center. The evening began with speeches by Felisha Brake, Nikki Brinkley, Maxine Wright, and the guest speaker, Reginald Silver. Silver stressed to stu dents the importance of setting goals. “ If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” he said. NVTHS advisor Debra Harding began the induction by asking students to take the Society’s pledge. After the pur poses of the society were ex plained, Superintendent Dr. George Norris handed each stu dent their certificate.
