The United States denies claims to the attack. 6:59pm- Reports show that knives and box cutters were used in the hijacking. Some reports also stated that the flight attendants were injured or possibly murdered by the terrorist. 7:21pm- Cox Cable in Rocky Mount has 29 channels showing the news coverage. Two had no programing to honor those lost. 7:30 pm - People on Capitol Hill begin sponta neously singing along to “God Bless America”; MSNBC first reports that approxi mately 200 fire fighters dead or missing 8:30 pm- President Bush addresses the nation 9:00 pm- Night falls on the nation as Manhat tan smolders in the wake of this terrible tragedy Wednesday, September 12,2001 The Day After 5:30 am- Osama bin Laden denies connection with the terrorist attacks, but admits that he is pleased 6:00 am- Six fire fighters and an policeman are pulled from the carnage at the World Trade Center, said to be badly burned 11:00 am- President Bush once again ad dresses the nation, calling the attacks an “act of war” 12:00 pm - FAA keeps airports closed past noon in order to put heavier security mea sures in place 12:09 pm- The Pentagon is temporarily evacuated, and fires continue to bum in the wreckage 2:00 pm- Although rescue efforts have continued all night, no more are expected to be found alive at the Pentagon. Some esti mates show anywhere from 100 to 800 bodies lay buried in the wreckage. 259 firemen and policemen are still missing from the World Trade Center complex, most of them last seen before the towers began to collapse. Thousands are buried in the rubble of two of the tallest buildings in the United States. October 7,2001 12:45pm- News reports tell us that Allied Forces are attacking Afganistan as the first military attacks in the war on terror. November 2, 2001 Several fire fighters on the recovery team at Ground Zero are arrested for a minor riot after plans of scaling back recovery efforts were passed. These charges were later dropped. November 11, 2001 The two month anniversary occurs. Fire fighters and other volunteers at Ground Zero pause to honor those lost in a moment of silence. November 12, 2001 American Airlines Flight 587 crashes in Queens, NY after 5 minutes of flight. The plane was headed to the Dominican Republic from JFK Airport. 255 passengers and crew were killed, and 5 people on the ground are missing. November 29,2001 Taliban militias and leaders have been driven out of most of northern Afghanistan. The Northern Alliance Forces have taken over. Even though the Taliban is leaving, the war is far from over; Marines are looking for Bin Laden. Also, the first US combat death occurred.
