®I|E CirypI|on Entertainment 5 Upcoming movies Shari tactile XXX PG-13 If action packed movies are something you’re looking for, XXX is the best movie for you. It’s starring one of the hottest new breed of action hero—Vin Diesel. He is without a doubt the hottest actor out there. According to E! XXX combines the X- games (a movie consisting of extreme sports) with 007. Vin Diesel plays Xander Cage, a bad boy gone secret agent. He must ride, jump, or destroy everything in his path in order to save the world from a savage gang. Also starring in the film are Samuel L. Jackson and Eve, in her big debut. Blue Crush PG-13 In this surfer girl movie, Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez, and Michelle Bourem hit the waves with a big summer splash. The movie teaches a great lesson in being true to yourself. The surfing scenes are spectacular and even include a real pro surfer, Sanoe Lake. This movie gives a positive message and makes for a great movie to enjoy with friends. Austin Powers in Goldmember PG-13 Three Austin Powers Movies, in my opinion, are way to many. Although the past two have been hilarious, a third movie is pushing it. Beyonce Knowles, from the hit trio Destiny’s Child, makes her acting debut. Her true calling is not acting. Her character, Foxxy Cleopatra, is too into Pam Grier the original Foxy Brown. Mike Meyers has funny scenes, but the plot is not all that great. In this case, the third time is not the charm. Martin Lawrence: Runteldat R Martin Lawrence is known for his comedic roles in shows, but his latest movie consists of a therapy session made into a movie. According to E!, it takes two-thirds of the movie before he actually gets to his personal problems, such as drugs, getting arrested, and exercising himself into a coma (literally). Martin gets most of his problems off his chest while being hilariously funny. I would recommend this movie to anyone who needs a good laugh. September is one of the hottest months for new films. Whether you like comedies, dramas, or even thrillers, this month offers a movie to everyone’s liking. Want to see something thrilling and bone-chilling? You should see Swimfan. Swimfan is a movie about a senior in high school whose life is going great until a new student turns his hfe upside down. Starring Jesse Bradford, Erika Christen, and Shiri Appleby, Swimfan is in theaters everywhere on September 6th. Rated PG-13. For those who enjoy a laugh or two, here’s something for you. On September 13, there are two movies that I think you would enjoy. The Barbershop tells the story of a young man who inherits a barbershop, located in Chicago, from his father. He sells the shop to a loan officer after deciding it would be a waste of time. Soon he realizes that there are a lot of memories and enjoyable times there. The Barbershop is full of amazing characters such as Calvin(Ice Cube), Eddie(Cedric the Entertainer), Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas), Issac(Troy Garity), and Terri(Eve). Rated PG-13. Another exciting movie, is Stealing Harvard. Two best friends, Duff(Tom Green) and John(Jason Lee), are very different. John’s dreams begin to fall out of place when he offers to pay for his niece’s college education. He then seeks out his best friend for help. The cast includes Leslie Mann, Megan Mullally, and Dennis Farina. Rated PG-13. On September 27, action, adventure, and comedy is brought to the theaters in The Tuxedo starring Jackie Chan, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Jason Issacs. Jackie Chan plays a chauffer who works for a millionaire. Suddenly, his boss is in an “accident”. Jackie Chan discovers the black tuxedo, which was never meant to be touched, leading him into a different world. Rated PG-13. 2002 VMA’s held Aug. 29th Lindsey Battle Artists like Pink, Nelly, Michelle Branch and Moby joined together August 29 for the Video Music Awards. The event was filled with show-stopping acts and hilarious jokes in which Jimmy Fallon mocked Nelly, Enrique Iglesias, and Eminem; where Britney’s outfit shocked along with Christina’s out-there digs. Eminem was the top winner, taking home 4 awards: best male video, best direction, best rap video, and video of the year, although while accepting one of his awards he was booed for cracking on Moby, then he threatened to hit a girl with glasses. Michelle Branch was the winner of the viewers’ choice awards, presented by Pink, who stated, “ I’m too drunk for this speech.” There were touching moments when TLC came to the stage to tell viewers and the audience of their lost Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez and the AIDS Foundation which she supported. Then there were funny moments, like the fake award presented to Michael Jackson by Britney Spears. There were many show-stopping performances. P. Diddy ignited the stage with a few friends like Usher and Busta Rhymes. Eminem made a roar with his performance of “White America” and “Cleaning Out my Closet”. Shakira also put on a show, with the famous belly dance moves she’s known for, during her unplugged performance. At the end, people waited and roared along with Jimmy Fallon when Guns’N Roses came to the stage - the stage MTV had been trying to get them to perform on for 5 years. The 2002 VMA’s were something to see this year. There’s no telling what the next VMA’s will bring. Movie reviews Adrienne Mitchell Fashion evolves Serena If everyone looked or stayed the same, the world would be so tiresome. That is why it is a good thing that clothing for teens in school is constantly changing over the years. With these latest trends, one never knows what to expect next. You can never go wrong with jeans. Jeans are acceptable among females and males. Females, however, have a numerous collection of denims to select from. The types of jeans that are mostly worn today are the dirty-look; boot cut, lace- up, frayed, faded, and low-rise jeans. Boot cuts are paired nicely with stilettos or some casual sneakers. The lace-up jeans and jackets usually have laces at the wrist, side, or ankle. Rough edges on pockets or around the waistband adds to the frayed look. Bohos, which are tops that look like they were worn back in the 70’s, are being worn with dirty-look jeans. To accentuate the outfit, throw on a low-slung fringe belt that matches the top. Hipsters or low-rise jeans are very popular for girls. An extra- wide belt can be worn to dress it up. Enough about the clothes; you always have to rely on a good pair of shoes. Arrington You don’t have to put on sneakers or boots all of the time; get pair of loafers, which come in an assortment of colors. Wear your athletic sneakers, like Nike, Adidas, and Pumas, for your sporty outfits. The ones mostly worn by the girls come with a snug zip-front hoodie and low-rise, drawstring pants or shorts. It gives them the J-Lo look. As for the boys, they can always keep their look simple. A name-brand shirt with some baggy jeans for them is fine. Some of the designs for their jeans are similar to the girls. For instance, the jeans that are faded, different color seam detailed, and patched. Their favorite modem look is the white T-shirt or a jersey to wear with some blue jeans. To top it off, a stylish cap and a pair of clean white sneakers can be worn with it. It is not anything too out-of- the-ordinary, but still chillin’ with it. Fashion is seductive and ageless. It is all about the expression of oneself Just keep in mind not to be like the crowd. Be creative, neat, and original with your style. Do you have stories to tell? Send them to The Gryphon! We want to hear from you! I
