King out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow.
^The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the v;ant, the care, the sin,
The faithless coldness of t^e times;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rimes,
But ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land.
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

TilE CHIUSTMAS SPIRIT
Everyone knov/s that December 85 is Christmas, but what
does that mean? 'ir/hat ideas does the v/ord "Christmas” bring
to our minds? Probably they are ideas of feasting, making
noise,^receiving gifts, and enjoying festivities. We think
of taking trips, getting out of school for tv/o v/eeks, and
celebrating in a selfish way. We have gone so far as to short
en the word "Christmas” to "Xmas”. Is it right to substitute
the letter for Christ? All this is not the meaning of
Chri stmas.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, who
gave his life for us. •'-Couldn’t wo celobrate his birth in r.
more fitting mr.nner? iiow about a little more reverence?' Me
do not mean to take the joy out of Christmas. After all,
v/e can find no real happiness in selfishnoss. It is only
through sharing with others that we find the real Christmas
spirit. If you v/ant to havo the happiest Christmas ever, just
think of its moaning and share your blessings with the less
fortunate. - J. C.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
About this time ovory year many people decide to make a
long list of resolutions to uphold in the Now Year* These reso
lutions seldom last longer than a fev/ weeks without being bro
ken. At best the resolutions are observed for only a short
period of the yoar they are made for. For this reason a great
many people have stopped mcking Nov/ Year’s resolutions. This,
hov/ever, is the v/rong attitude to take about such a v/orthy
practice. Each time a person makes a resolution and keeps it
for even a short time, he has strengthened his v/ill power and
tried to develop a good habit. For this reason we urge that
each student make good resolutions for 1936 and try to observe
them. If you break one, do not ^ivo up. Make tho riZ?solution
