Mama s Baby Boy Is Presentation Given By Senior Class April 26th Proceeds Used As Gift The annual Senior banquet was held m the school cafeteria Fri day night, May 10. Speeches were made by Mr Grip, Mr. Gibson, Mr. Frank n! ?£o".rH.t5‘ey“ After the speeches dinner was served, consisting of fried chicken peas, creamed potatoes, stuffed to matoes olives, celery, salted nuts, hot rolls, iced tea, ice cream and CS1C6. The entertainment began with a Catherine Whiteley and Wilhe Frances Efird. Follow- Josephine Beaver present ed the gifts. Claude Shankle, Hurl Almond, Kenneth Miller and Bill Helms sang a selection. Willie Frances Ehrd read the class poem: then Catherine Whiteley, Billie Ray Annie Ruth Smith sang. The Last Will and Testament was read by Marie Deese and Jose phine Whitley; and the prophecy was read by Polly Martin. Another attraction of the eve ning was a trio composed of Bill Benson, Charles Lefler, and Ray Harwood singing “You Are My Sunshine” and “What Would You Give?” The class mascots, Sally Ausband and John David Moose, spoke a few words, and Sally sang “Oh Johnny”. ’ ~ -tt: -’-•tW' Facuity Honors Gibson With Farewell Party From The Senior Cl ass Miss Gaskin and Andrew Presented In Recital “Mama’s Baby Boy,” a rollicking farce m three acts, was the annual iresentation of the senior class this rear. Featuring a cast composed intirely of seniors, the proceeds vere used for the senior class gift 'ghtmg equipment for the stage. Leading parts in the play were aken by Virginia Stone, David 'lump, Charles Lefler, and Lydia lowers with Maria Ehringer S Hill, Laura Vann Hathcock,’ M Milton, fo?he, in M other featured roles. of the auction, which was given to a fter audience at both fte^oonand evening perW Two talented pupils of Miss Annyce Worsham, Erleen Gaskin and Sammy Andrew, were present ed in piano recitals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, May 14 and 16 Miss Gaskin’s program included two movements from a Beethoven sonata, and compositions by Bach, Chopin, McDowell, Taylor, and Rienhold. She was assisted by Guy Propst, baritone, who sang a group of four light classical num bers. Andrew’s program centered around three movements from Bee thoven and Chopin compositions, and shorter ones by Bach, Scar latti - Tausig, Gluck- Brahms, Schytte, MacDowell, and Grieg. S. faculty members, together with the city principals and their wives, surprised Mr. Gib son with a farewell party Monday night. May 20, in the Home Eco nomics laboratory. About 40 guests enjoyed the numerous games and contests which were played throught the evening. Mrs. Claude Grigg presided at the punch bowl, where punch and sandwiches were served. At the close of the evening the entire faculty presented Mr. Gib son with a handsome Gladstone traveling bag, as a farewell gift. Mascots Entertain Class At Dance In City Armory The senior class was delightful ly entertained at a formal dance given by Mr. and Mrs. Vance Aus band and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Moose, parents of Sally Ausband and John David Moose, class mascots. The dance was held in the Armory, Sat urday night. May 18. Punch and cakes were served to the members of the class. Wade Denning’s orchestra furnished the music. The National Honor Society was started to stimulate scholarshin among students. The twenty-two present members were chosen for scholarship, leadership, service and character. National Honor Society Taps Three New Members At Spring Ceremony Principal Honors Class At Party Tuesday Night The graduating class was feted on Tuesday evening. May 28, in the high school cafeteria, when Mr. Gibson gave his annual senior party. The school colors, blue and white, were used in the crepe paper streamers throughout the room. Summer cut flowers and balloons added to the decorations. Latest spring and summer fash ions were shown when the guests were divided into groups of five and given a roll of crepe paper, a pa.ckage of pins, and a pair of scissors and asked to design a dress for one of the handsome Romeos. The expression on some of the faces of the mighty seniors was quite amusing when trying to re member their childhood and nurse ry rhyme days for a Nursery Rhyme-Professor Quiz program. Dancing and ping-pong were en joyed throughout the evening. Seniors Have Picnic The annual twelfth grade picnic was held at Mirror Lake, Thursday afternoon. May 23, Miss Laws and Mr. Gibson chaperoning. The afternoon was spent in swimming, boating, dancing, but mainly eating! The group returned home at 7 o’clock. Dr. Dwight Ware, pastor of Central Methodist church, spoke on “Labels”. After the business meeting ta bles were set up for table tennis. Tapping of new members into the National Honor Society for the spring term was held May 10. At the spring induction only a small number is admitted, and in the fall induction the quota is completed. The principal speaker was Dr. Ware, of the Central Methodist church. His theme was selecting your life’s vocation and choosing your life partner. Lucille Palmer is one of the most popular girls in Albemarle High School. She has been presi dent of Mr. Gehring’s Dramatic club, and a member fo the Boost ers’ club. Margaret Ridenhour is a mem ber of the debating team, mixed chorus, girls’ Glee club and Dra matic club. She was president of her homeroom in ’36. Sammy Andrew is widely known by his ability to play the piano. He plays football, baseball and basket ball just as well.
