BULLDOG BARKS
ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
When you see the middle of the opponent’s line being ripped
open you will know that a pair of flashy guards have slashed it
open for a spectacular play. They are (as you know) Jimnay
Knotts and Co-captain Ken Ritchie, as fine a pair of guards as any
where in the state. a xj c
“Knotty” is the brother of “Bear” Knotts, former A. xi. o.
player and now a Duke star. . a
Ken is Co-captain of the Bulldogs and has really played a
season. Ken has made good at kicking the extra points wnicn
are very important in a game. j ii
These two boys have played heads-up ball this year and will
make good prospects for any college team.
JR VARSITY IMPROVING
Coach Henry “Mac’s” Bullpups have been doing better since the
last issue of the Full Moon.
Since then they have tromped China Grove and the powerful
Mt. Gilead team, losing to Mt. Gilead in a return game by a
score of 6-0. , , n i.
The players you have been seeing on the Jr. Varsity will be
what next year’s varsity will be made of, so here’s hoping that they
do what our Varsity has done this year.
ALBEMARLE VS. ALBEMARLE
Yes, sir, it was “Bear” Knotts against Dick Foreman and Buck
Mabry in the Duke vs. Wake Forest game ten days ago.
“Bear” and Dick were noted in the papers for their fine defensive
works, while Buck did not play much due to a bad ankle.
CUBS SIGN CHARLIE
Albemarle High School recently lost Charlie Wiles when he
signed a baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs and quit school.
Wiles, who caught for the Legion Junior Finalists this year, was
a regular tackle for the Bulldogs both last year and this and a
star guard for the basketball team last year.
A. H. S. misses Charlie for he was a great athlete and friendly
to everybody. Good luck, Charlie.
TASTE OF ARMY LIFE
If school seemed quiet to you the week of Oct. 23-27, it was
because some of the senior boys were with the State Guard at
Fort Bragg.
The yardbirds left Sunday morning at 5:30 for their training.
They got regular army training and pay. It was a week of march
ing, hand to hand fighting, etc. Payday was Saturday afternoon.
The boys that left from A. H. S. were: Jimmy Sifford, Ken
Ritchie, Jimmy Knotts, Donald Whiteley, Tom Efird, Gerald Rum
mage, Fred Litaker, Henry Walker, Wade Huneycutt, and Bill Love.
THE FULL MOON
China Grove Loses
To Junior Varsity
The Junior Varsity of A. H. S.
took an unexpected win over China
Grove by a score of 12-6.
The China Grove team had an
undefeated season behind them un
til they played Albemarle. With
the help of three second-string
varsity players, the Junior Varsity
held the China Grove team most
of the game, allowing them to score
only once.
The Junior Varsity showed an
array of passes and running at
tacks. Beaul Lefler and Gene Har
rington did the running and pass
ed with precision.
Gene Harrington broke his arm
while running with the ball, so
Leonard Gibson took over his place
from then on. He and Beaul Lef
ler scored a touchdown each.
Bullpups Lose
A. H. S. Bullpups in their sec
ond game with Mt. Gilead lost by
a score of 6-0.
The Mt. Gilead team showed up
much better with-iftssing and run
ning attacks. The Bullpups could
n’t get started to a scoring posi
tion. Mt. Gilead had a much bet
ter pass defense.
The Bullpup’s blocking seemed
not to have effect on Mt. Gilead.
But the Bullpups held their ground
to the last two minutes of the
game when an off tackle play
brought Mt. Gilead to the pay-dirt.
The attempt for the extra point
was no good.

Robert Honeycutt and George
Turner were alert at their end po
sitions, each scoring a touchdown.

Crown Champions
The Bulldogs, playing their best
game of the season, took Chil
dren’s Home, last year’s champions,
18-14, on the home field October
27 in a game the spectators won’t
soon forget.
There was no scoring in the first
quarter, but some very good run
ning and passing was done by
Walker and Sifford.
In the second stanza the Bull
dogs were in the shadow of their
own goal posts when the Home’s
Poole brothers took it over and
Sprinkle added the point.
Walker and Sifford alternated
for a while and Lowder picked up
a fumble for the score. The first
half ended with the score 7-6 in
favor of Children’s Home.
The Orphans opened up in the
third quarter and battered and
rammed their way down for an
other seven points, but this ended
their scoring. Sifford passed to
Denning and L. Little for Albe
marle’s second score. Score 14-12.
Sifford intercepted a pass on the
Albemarle 20, and-he and Walker
and Denning volleyed the pigskin
until Denning pitched to Sifford’s
fingertips for the badly-needed
score.
The Bulldogs were the first to
beat Children’s Home for two
years.
A. H. S. Victorious
The Bulldogs in spite of a wet
field beat Thomasville 19-0 on the
home field October 13.
The touchdowns were run by
Walker and Sifford, Sifford passing
to L. Little for the third. Ritchie
marked up one extra point.
Everybody played heads up ball.
