Many A.H.S. Alumni
In College Choirs
Mr. Paul Fry’s diligent choral
work at the high school has
shown fine results, as A. H. S.
is well represented in. college
choirs.
Henry Forest, majoring in
music at Catawba, is singing
in the Catawba choir* and was
also chosen as a first tenor for
the men's octet. This same octet
recently sang in Raleigh on the
program of the N. C. Federated
Woman’s Club.
Singing second soprano in the
choir at Mars Hill College and
studying voice privately, is Gay-
nelle Chandler. She had plan
ned to take a liberal arts course
until the head of the voice de
partment and the dean urged
her to become a music major.
Another music major is Barb
ara Smith, who is a member of
the Flora McDonald choir.
Dick Hedden did not limit his
musical talent to singing. In
addition to singing in the choir
at Clemson College, he is play
ing in the band and dance orch
estra.
Sara Skidmore, Kathleen Hud
son, and Catherine Taylor, stu
dent nurses at Presbyterian
Hospital, are members of the
nurses’ choir, which i^ directed
by John Holliday of Queens Col
lege faculty.
Three A. H. S. graduates have
been reported as members of
the W. C. U. N. C. choir and four
as members of the Wake Forest
choir. Martha Moore, Mary
Helen Cooper, and Connie Mc
Lain are the Albemarle choris
ters at W. C.
Also reported as members of
college choral groups are the
following A.H.S. alumni: Jo Fox,
Duke; Bill Ridenhour, Lenoir
Rhyne; Jane and Jean Bullock,
Appalachian State Teachers Col
lege; Jerry Lowder, N. C. State;
Jeneece Lowder, U. N. C.; Con
rad Crotts, Cincinnati Conserva
tory of Music; Betty Boone and
Norma Bogle, Pfeiffer.
It is probable that there are
many other former Albemarle
high students taking part in
college choral organizations, but
no definite reports on them have
been obtained.

given by those who attended the
national convention held in
Kansas City. The program will
be closed with a ritual service.
