Friday, March 9, 1951 THE FULL MOON Page 5 Sports On Parade •SKIP" McMANUS ‘KID" CAUSBY This year Albemarle high school will be represented in the Carolina A. A. U. wrestling tournament. It will be the first time A. H. S. has been represented in a sport of this kind. College teams from all the southern states will be there, but only four high schools will be included. They are Greensboro, High Point, Statesville, and Albemarle. Representatives from here will be: 27 pound class, Pat Haire; 37 pound class, George Causby; 67 pound class, Bill Morris; 77 pound class, Arthur Burris; unlimited class, Edward Patterson and Hamilton Morton. Coach Mott Price is looking forward to the event, which will take place on March 9-10. * * * * Intramural basketball has come to a close. Playing in the finals were 12 No., 2, 10 No. 1, 12 No. 3, 9 No. 1, and 11 No. 2. The 12 No. 3 team defeated 9 No. 1 to enter runnings for third place. The 11 No. 2 team forfeited to 12 No. 3, giving them third place in the tournament. The 12 No. 2 team defeated 10 No. 1 to take first place. Members of the winning team are Bill Clark, Ed Patterson, Malcolni Lowder, Jimmy Green, and Henry Farmer. The final standings were: the twelfth grade first and third place, and the tenth grade second place. ***** We, the columnists, speaking for the Full Moon staff and the school, wish to thank the cheerleaders for the grand work they have done this year. Despite the fact that they had very little help from the students, they have cheered our teams through ^ins and losses. At the same time they have added a certain Amount of grace and beauty to the football fields and basketball courts of Albemarle High and neighboring schools. Led by chief cheerleader, Ann Taylor, these students have Upheld the hopes of the Boosters club members who voted for them. We realize that most of you know them, but for those that don’t they are: Ann Tayolr, Dorothy Gaskin, Virginia Brown, Betty Brunson, Margaret Brunson, Martha Rae Harris, and Junior Josey. c * * * * Basketball is over, and again Albemarle had a very success ful season. The boys won nine conference games and lost three, while the girls won only five to seven lost. ♦ * # * * We’re going to have a baseball team again for the first time in four years and we hope to keep a team this time. We ve Sot the material to have a top-notch team, so why shouldn’t Some of you sports fans—no, all of you—^turn out for the games. Come on—get behind them. Senior Team Wins Basketball Crown The twelfth No. 2 team took first place in the annual intra mural basketball tournament just completed at A.H.S. In the finals they beat the 10th No. 1 team 14 to 6. Second place was taken by the runners-up, the 10th No. 1 team, and third place was taken by an other twelfth grade team, No. 3. Points made by these winning teams will be added to points made by their class in other events and at the end of the year a trophy will be given to the team with the most points. This trophy has been taken by the class of ’51 for the past three years. Members of the winning team are Billy Clark, Ed Patterson, Malcolm Lowder, Jimmy Green, and Henry Farmer. The average person who lives to be 70 years old has slept 20 years of it away. See it in action at *■« '51 Baseball Nine Starts Practice Once again A.H.S. will field a baseball team, after having drop ped baseball at the end of the ’48 season because of poor support and financial difficulties. Coach “Toby” Webb has agreed to take the reins of coaching the A.H.S. Bulldogs. A very strong team is in the making with pitch ing being the only weak spot. Four lettermen—John Harwood, Joe McAnulty, Harold Hudson, and Charles Whitley—are return ing from the ’48 team. Other boys with plenty of ex perience are Kenny Brown, Joe Hudson, Robert Scaggs, Bill Clark, Jimmy Scarboro, and Mal colm Lowder. Competition is very keen for Six NHS Members To Go To Boyden Six Honor Society members from A.H.S. are scheduled to at tend the annual State Conference of the National Honor Society at Boyden high school, Salisbury, on March 16 and 17. The A.H.S. chapter selected Ann Taylor and Charles Litaker as of ficial delegates and Robert Scaggs, Jo Ann Burrell, Martha Knight, and Dot Gaskin as unofficial dele gates. The highlight of the conference will be a banquet which will be held on Friday night. The speak er will be Dr. I. G. Greer from the University of North Carolina. starting positions with several other boys looking good in prac tice.
